I've always liked the ISO Grifo a lot, and it's good to see this model being made. I have not checked any reference yet, but to my eye, those wheels don't look completely correct....
Next 1/24th Ferrari F1 from Hachette is the 1980 Ferrari T5 Monaco. A very bad year for Ferrari, this car has never been done in 1/24th scale before, although maybe a resin body was done from Japan. Also, the C4 preview. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Marshall, it looks better in person. The rear fender is not perfectly tall enough from the arch to the top of the fender I think, but the main thing that makes the picture look strange is the wheels are set to far out. I really don't expect to ever find a better model of the ISO Grifo, this is that good. But more color options would have been nice. Also do not buy the wire wheel version, the wire wheels are wrong. The ALLOY Campagnolo wheels are very good. Top quality model. He (the factory he uses) does not use the same technique as BBR for the windows, that are super clear but have more curvature, so not flat sheet, but not vacuform either.
Next 2 non Ferrari 1/24th Hachette models. The BT24 looks really nice, much better than the old 1/24th scale white metal Wills Finecast kit from the 1960's. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Here is the ISO Grifo 1/24th model. I did narrow the wheels and remount them. Also repainted them with Alclad and added printed spinners to replace the original spinners which I think were too thick. New base I made and out lined the doors. You are not going to get a better Grifo model. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks great! Big improvement! That said, it makes no sense at all as to why Automodello did not get those things right in the first place. They always seem to miss something on their models, which certainly falls at the feet of the companies 'designer.'
Those are your typical Chinese production errors; they always use paint that is to shiny and rarely do door outlines. They also make wheels and tires way to big or small. The spinner issue was not that big, only slightly thick. Since I had several extra sets of the correct spinners I had printed I put them on. This model was researched by the ISO Grifo club, so it is pretty accurate. I talked to the other Automodello partner, and he sounded like the 1/24th Mangusta is a go for future production By the way, that is the Top Marques 1/12th 250SWB that I worked over in the case. Made the series 2 Nurburgring SEFAC factory car that ran in 1961. Not many SEFAC 259SWB's in red.
What I can see of your reworked 1:12 250 SWB model looks terrific.... The Iso Grifo model does look great. Yes, they work with many of the clubs, and others on most of their models to help with research and approval, etc. I know and have dealt with the people at Automodello.... I was also directly involved/working with them on the Fitch Phoenix long ago. They always specify and do a final sign off on production. Over the years, errors (some were minimal and some were glaring) have been given the "OK" on their 1:43, 1:24 & 1:12ths. And I certainly know & understand about all the ups & downs with making any models in China...ugggh. It ain't easy. I've yet to find any accurate model of a Mangusta in any scale, so I hope they do make it, and if they do... hope it's really good.
They do make errors, that is for sure. The 1/12th scale Eagle is a very good example, to many things wrong to list. But the Hiro Eagle is not perfect. The SMP24 did a 1/24th Mangusta that is very nice, but hard to get. He just did the real nice Carabo. Hope he keeps making odd show cars. By the way, I still think the rear fender lip on the Grifo is slightly too high, but not by too much.

In 1985 I went to a race car exhibition in Brussels and they had this 126C4 replica which I think used a moped engine. Looked nice. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Finally have the Hachette 1/24th Ferrari 312 T5 from 1980. I think it is a lot better than the T4 they did. It is a newer release, so that explains it, but it was poor performer. Very nice details on this off-year Ferrari.
Hello to all of you. I have a question: I'm located in Germany and have a subscription for: "Legends of Ferrari F1 - Die Cast 1/24 Scale Model Collection" offered in Germany by De Agostini I assume this ist the same as "Il Grandi Ferrari F1" by Centauria But is this also the same as the "Hachette Series" discussed in this Thread. Confused, best regards Till
Hi, yes, they are the same models. I refer to them by the company that releases them most of the time, not by the collection name as we have several collections. IXO is actually the manufacturing company who is under the PCT corporate umbrella to make it more confusing!! PREMIUM & COLLECTIBLES TRADING - PREMIUM & COLLECTIBLES TRADING CO.
So now the people at Hachette are spreading rumors the regular 1/24th F1 series will go to 140 cars and the Ferrari series 100 cars, for a total of 240 1/24th F1 cars. I think we will get 1 F1 Ferrari from every year and all the Drivers' Championship cars in 1/24th scale. Add FPPM and Fernando Pinto and we will also get most of the pre war open wheel Driver Championship cars in 1/24th scale along with several Indy cars. Add to that almost everything outside of F1 cars in either 1/43rd, 1/24th or 1/18th you might want to re consider 1/24th scale for everything in the larger scales as they make a lot of model kits in 1/24th scale and almost no 1/18th scale model kits. Even the Renault Espace F1 minivan model kit is 1/24th scale. If you're not a kit builder than you have 3 scale choices now for diecasts. Mike Quarterman of UMI's dream is finally coming true. I wish he had lived long enough to see it happen. He did get the first few Hachette 1/24th scale F1 models before he passed away.
Thank you for the clarification. GReatly appreciated. By the way: I love your contribution to the forum!
