I am interested in purchasing a 2007 automatic Quattroporte. However, i am concerned about the Maserati brand's reputation in some circles. I have heard everything from chronic electrical problems and lack of reliability to Masers being a car that will give me only 40- 50k miles if lucky. They are beautiful cars. However, I do not like headaches. The local Mas dealer/repair shop is in my city, but not around the corner (one hour round trip under good traffic conditions). If I can expect frequent visits, then this would be a deal breaker and i will move on to one of their German counterparts with a better rep for reliability. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Usually if there are problems with the cars, these message boards will be filled with complaints. I have not seen that to be the case here or on other Maserati boards. Perhaps all the issues you are referring were from biturbo owners? I have seen '05 Quattroportes with 90k miles and Spyders as well. The 2007 automatic should be a good car. Perhaps some owners will chime in with their experience. Also you can search on this forum for various terms like "Quattroporte" "2007" and see what comes up.

Those circles are usually clueless. Many Ferraristi carry complretely obsolete vague wrong notions about Maserati.
Do you ask Porsche people Ferrari advice? No.

Then don't listen to Ferrari blinkered people regarding Maserati.

The comany and the factory were completely overhauled 10 years ago, the new models are state of the art nothing to do with the 1980's nightmares.

Go for it you will not regret it.

I bought my wife a new 07 QP automatic this year. It has been the perfect car for her, not to mention me. We both love it. It is great to drive anywhere any time. We both have driven Mercedes (mainly new SL's, but one 300E sedan) daily for the last 18 years. We looked at every sedan in the M.B. line up and nothing there excited us. The new Maserati comes with the following:

4 year bumper to bumper warranty. With free pick up and delivery service from my dealer.
Free roadside assistance for the 4 years. They actully have a contract with the same local towing sevice that Mecedes uses.
    12,500 mi service intervals.
A 400 hp Ferrari developed engine with TIMMING CHAINS in lieu of belts! (What I would give for the chains in my two Ferrari's)
The ZF developed automatic is the icing on the cake.

All of this, along with seeing a lot of used QP's for sale with milage indicating daily use has made me comfortable with my purchase. It's a fantastic dependable exotic car that gets a lot of looks and you will not see many on the same road with you.

Hope this helps. BTW here it is.

Thanks very much for all of the responses. In particular, thank you GDRIII. That is exactly what i was hoping to hear as the Quattroporte has always been my choice over the more commonly seen sedans. This car will not likely be a daily driver. Rather a 40th birthday present or me to enjoy on the weekends. I will likely be making a purchase this fall and will send pics.
