Looking at them in their suits, I not sure I would recognize them if I wandered in to them at a party. I remember (for the most part) seeing Led Zeppelin live back in the early 70's (I got to sit right left of stage, and yeah it was loud) and that's how I remember Paige. That Jimmy Paige looks old now (unlike me).
I was at a small party in Hollywood once and was alone in the backyard by the pool talking to this kind of weird looking guy. I kept thinking I knew him from somewhere. We started talking about music and he mentioned the band he played used to play drums for....the Beatles.

Page has been through heroin addiction and back. I think he actually looks healthier now than he did back in the Zeppelin days. I'm going to see Robert Plant next Friday night!

Nope, in Tulsa, at the historic Cain's Ballroom. I think it only holds about 1200 people, so it'll be a great small show. He is playing Dallas too though, at the Gypsy Tea Room, I think Monday. It's Robet Plant and "The Strange Sensation", his current band. I have no idea what they are playing, if it's going to be only new material from the not-yet-released CD, but he's GOT to throw in some Zeppelin, and a solo song or two. Otherwise you'll have a whole bunch of people who can't get into it, because they don't know anything they are listening to!

If I was a rocker I'd probably prefer that the queen didn't recognize me. Kind of a middle-aged version of street cred. Also, the way knighthood has been watered down the last several years, I'm surprised she didn't whip out a sword and dub them all on the spot.

Any pics of Jeff Beck with SRV and Double Trouble from when they were touring?

I think the pic of Plant & Page could easily be photoshopped to make Page into a woman.

thats funny ! i was at a party in rome a few years ago, and got to talking with another american there. he seemed very familiar to me, especially his voice. so i told him this, and he said that he had been on tv....turns out it was father guido sarducci ! so then he went on to tell me all sorts of stories of partying with belushi and akroyd in the heydays. very funny. the next day he was arrested in vatican square for impersonating a priest ! the italians did not think it was funny, but we all thought it was hilarious of course.

After reading the title to this thread I was thinking, "isn't queen broke up?" "Didn't their main man like totally die and stuff?"

When I read that article on CNN and I was thinking, shouldn't someone brief the Queen prior to meeting these people?

Considering their age, and prior lifestyles, these guys don't look all that bad. However, the ravages of time have made their mark on Jeff Beck....and Robert Plant.

But actually, I think they're playing again with, get this, Paul Rodgers singing! But I wonder if Brian May and HRH got into one of those "No dawg, I'M Queen" deals.

Actually he probably doesn't hold the legal rights to the Led Zepplin songs - kinda like whatshisface from CCR losing that $10m lawsuit against the record label (Sony? Columbia?) because his new music sounded too much like CCR.

When I first read the title I thought you ment the band Queen which I thought was some kind of snub. I though Queen Eliz. II was a little bit of a rebel when she was younger. She would probably recognize the music before she could look at Clapton today and know who he is. For that matter, I'm sure he doesn't care....

Not sure how all the Zeppelin catalog is owned, but I do know the surviving band members are heavily involved in decision making on all things Zeppelin. As for live performances, it's my understanding anyone can play anyone's song live, and I think they can even record anyone's song, it's just the royalty issue comes into play. But no way Atlantic would ever come down on Plant for singing Zeppelin, the catalog still sells way too well to negate promotion.

Yep, I'm resurrecting this old thread, only because I mentioned I was going to see Robert Plant. Met the man himself, a dream come true for me. And yeah, I know he doesn't look the best for being 56, but lead his life, and tell me the tradeoff isn't worth it!

BTW, I'm about 5'9", so you can see how tall he is. And yes, the first thing my sister said at seeing the picture, "What a melon!"
