Are there any differences between the 1989 and 1990 TRs that were originally delivered in California versus those delivered in the other 49 states? Were they tuned differently or did they have any other pollution related changes?

No, all US version TR (1985-1991 model years) had identical powerplants and emission equipment when new (but that was a long time ago ;)) -- engine family F113A040. If this isn't what's shown on the block above cyl #6 -- the TR wasn't/isn't a US version.

And, a 91 TR was not "officially" legal in California. Although, several have long been imported after the fact. I remember helping a few poor local souls that purchased used 91TRs and didn't realize they were not legal in CA.

Digging up an old thread to get some clarification on this subject. I have been looking at TRs and noticed a picture of a 49 state sticker "Not for Sale in California" on the Black 91 on EBay. A quick search dug up a few threads, but I'm still a little unsure of what has to happen to get a 91 legal in CA. Just put CA legal cats on it? I assume that they are the same cats that were used in previous years, but CA passed some jackass new reg in 91? Glad I saw that before I bought something though, that would have sucked!

Nothing at all. It is a used car and can be registered here.

In 91 California required OBD and the TR did not have it. The 512TR was designed to fulfill that requirement but it was delayed. Ferrari continued with the TR one more year and just made them 49 state cars.

Ancient history and has no effect on anything since 1992 if memory serves.

Actually getting them in when brand new was no big deal.
