Here are two photos of the tool kit from my '83 400i. I am wondering, is that "U" shaped bit of wire intended to be part of the kit? If so, what is it for? Also, that ratchet wrench at the top of the second photo: what is this for? Also, is there supposed to be a plastic holder for the tools, like the one for the first aid kit?

Here are photos of my tool/medical kit and the contents of the jack kit. There should be a plastic holder for the tools as well.

It looks to me that you have a lot of tools in there that weren't there originally (e.g. the open end wrenches and the oil filter wrench) and some that are missing. One of the tools in your picture is the emergency window winder which is stored separately and I just keep in the glove compartment. The circular green thing holds spare light bulbs and fuses.

The funny ratchet handle actually is from the jack kit and is used to raise the scissors jack and is used with the extender (bar to the right) that attaches to the jack.

Bill, I'm not an expert on the contents of Ferrari tool kits - but that piece of wire looks suspiciously like half of the kit needed to remove a DIN fitting radio (you need two of them, both the same). I doubt that they would be part of such a kit, and '83 is quite early for such a radio to be fitted from the factory?

Or it's half a giant paper clip?

    Only kidding, Howard.

Thanks for the replies. In short, it appears I have *nothing* left of the original tool kit. Too bad. I also don't have the shaft for the jack, so I guess I don't need the ratchet. but I do need to carry a socket and ratchet handle to do this job.

Does the 400 (not 400i) kit contain the roadside reflector because my kit contains exactly the same items as those shown here and is also yellow. The 400i kits I've seen are black but maybe the colour varies from car to car. Also, did the 400 have the medical kit as the holder in the spare wheel doesn't seem to accommodate one.

The jack in my '83 400i, and the ratchet handle, are black.

The $849 for that jack, etc., is probably more than I have in my entire 30-year collection of tools -- mainly of the mid priced Craftsman variety -- and I have *a lot* of tools.

So this is quite probably from a pre-injection carbed car like mine - can anyone confirm what else should be with this kit or is it complete ?

and you're 100% right about the price - strange that these cars sell for (relatively) small money but all the bits are stupidly expensive !

We live in very strange world were so much makes such little sense.

Series 1 vs series 2 tool kits. Series 2 had the kidney shaped kit that fit into the wheel rim.
    The reflector kit is #105974
