So, the winning car is taken and put on display in the Daytona museum for a year. To me, this sounds like a screw job to the winning team by losing one of their chassis for an entire year. Does NASCAR provide any kind of compensation? Is it part of the prize money? Also, I think someone needs to renew Earnhardt's "doughnut the winner" bit.

All of the teams are absolutley happy to leave the winning car at the Daytona Experience. Not screwed at all. T wind that race is worth giving up a $150,000 race car. The only other place they can use this same chassis is Talledaga, and unlike F1 these teams build 15-20 chassis for the season. No loss.

Makes sense. Thanks for the info.

I don't know how many times he did it, but DE would pull up alongside the winner on the cool-down lap and rub his tire against the winning car's door, ensuring his mark in the museum for a year.

Dude, the winner's purse is $1,440,000 PLUS other contingencies. As Ron says, the only other place they need a restrictor plate car is 'Dega. They build a LOT of plate cars because the carnage rate is higher in practice, qualifying and the race, so they're already on hand...

Hey Ron, what was that about "open wheel drivers" among the taxi-cab stars?

Seems like Sam was doing quite well for himself all afternoon, as was JPM towards the end... <grin>
