Question about GA US/Canada border crossing

    Hi Aviation gurus... just watched a movie last night (A Simple Curve - a Canadian
    indie film - not bad). One of the main characters is a US citizen who regularly flies
    from the US to Canada in his float plane. We only ever see him land on the lake.

    Made me curious what the customs realities of this are? I just can't imagine that
    one can fly from the US to Canada and back free and clear, and just pop into a lake
    at will.

    What's the 'real' procedure for General Aviation in this case?
