I was loooking in to the WC points side of the equation when I used that Imola example. Of course, in the safety side, is a different story.

So what is the difference, any tire can be flat spotted, with or without tire exchages. Kimi could have pitted and changed the tire yesterday.

Let's say that we tires swap is allowed, and Kimi had flat spoted a softer (because if you allow tire swaps you can bet they all will use softer compounds) tire 15 laps to the end of the race with 2nd car 14 seconds behind. Do you think he would pit to change the tire, or he would had take the risk in exactlly the same way?

Had he been on fresher tires it might not have happened at all..........

Or might, 2 of the 3 times Kimi did over brake were quite obvious, he was way over the limit. I do not recall exactlly but I think all of them was past mid race. He and Alonso were quite lucky to not get trapped in the sand traps.

INHO That always can happen. However I admit that, with tire swaps allowed, the probability plays in favour of safety.

Not trying to argue with you at all. All I'm saying is, that the governing body should step in before somebody really gets hurt.

So far it was all "fun and games", but I think yesterday showed how easily this could have ended tragically. And in a way it is unfair to burden the drivers with such a difficult and risky decision. Racing is dangerous by nature, but certain things can be avoided.

He did not stay out in fear of getting penalized, they stayed out because they thought "gambled" it would make it to the end. Go for the win is what they did do........I'm sure they did not anticipate the vibration being so bad to cause a supsension failure. Kimi is as much to blame as Ron as he ultimately relays how bad the situation is.........he just wanted to win.........he's trying to catch up to Alonso...........he needed the win.

In the interest of safety I think tire change should be allowed back.
Personally I like this season because Bridestone sux (I'm not a Ferrari F1 fan) but yesterday's accident could have been fatal had the tire struck Kimi's head.

    A couple other things I like :
    - 1 Qualifying is good
    - Q fuel should be minimal, not related to tomorrow's race. It will be fun to watch the minimum Q time, not related to pitstop strategy tomorrow.
    - 2 race per engine is OK.
    - Why not back to the old no refueling during race? I think that has no impact to safety right? In fact, there will be less risk of fire during pit stop.

For qualifying i would like to see them go back to 12 laps with perhaps only a 35-40 miniute window to get them done in that way everyone will have to get onto the track in order to do there laps instead of minardi and Jorday sweeping off the track for the first 20 mins like it use to be.

Get rid of the one tire rule. Allow perhaps 1 full tire change after the 1/2 way point. with single tire changes allowed for punctures, Heavy flatspots Etc

Refuling can stay in my opinion as it creates a little bit of a chess game between the teams.

I can't believe the one tire rule will stay in effect next year. I even doubt that it will survive the rest of this year. There have been several bad crashes due to tire failures. I doubt they will wait for a fatality to see the error in their ways. I think the idea was to get Ferrari off the top. O.K. ,Point made. Let's do something that makes sense now.
