I had a side marker on my 355 pop out. It is a 95 euro spec car. So I was inspecting it an it looks like tab broke and hence it popped out. So I went to ricambi to order a new one, and the one listed looks nothing like the one I have. The 'correct' part seems to have to threaded posts, and bolts up to a backing plate on the bumper. The one I have on my car has tabs and snap fits into place. It has a part number on it and when I google it, it shows that I have an e30 side marker. It is stamped DOT SAE P1A 85. Any reason why this should be on my car? The only thing I can think of is they may have been installed when the car was federalized? Or maybe there was previous damage to the car and previous owner cheaperd out on repairs? Hmmm
BMW parts are used routinely on gray market cars. Partially because so many conversion shops do a lot of BMW's but also the pats can be bought extremely cheap. The business is all about doing the cars are inexpensively as possible and Ferrari parts are not in the budget for most.
This is what I suspected. I just ordered another BMW side marker from amazon for $26. I believe the correct part from ricambi was ~$45
