Yes I know there are many threads on this subject... I was just wondering about the long term results of using 3M industrial double sticky tape to attach skid plates. I would greatly appreciate your experience using the 3M tape. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Mine has been on for over a year and several minor scratches. Still holding on tight. Hope this helps.

I think the OP was asking about the 3M tape merits. Agree that skid plates are essential for protecting your investment - Hill Engineering ones are excellent.
I would certainly fix with screws not 3M - too much dust and vibration down there, and in the event of an impact with a speed bump I wouldn't be comfortable with adhesive tape.

As thay are a functional item ( They take impacts ) I would only use the 3M tape to secure it while you were drilling guide holes for the rivets/fasteners to secure them for actual use.

What are your thoughts on why would you use 3M over fasteners?

I used to have my skid plates with double tape. No worries.

Safe4now really don't like drilling holes if I don't have to.

My indie used to be a lead tech at the dealership - he was adament plates should be drilled as they are impact absorbing. Each to his own I guess......

My skid plates have been on for 1 1/2 years with 3M VHB tape. Wont budge and it has taken many scrapes already. Some big ones too. If you ever have to remove, just heat with heat gun and use fishing line in a back an forth motion between skid plate and bumper and you can remove them. So there is no down side to using the tape.

Mine are screwed and taped. Tape has come a long way in the last 10 years but NO manufacturers' use only tape to secure a large heavy body part intended for mechanical impact. Tape is usually for temporary adhesion prior to mechanical fastening.

My check for anything I do- is this acceptable for use on the track? If it's even questionable then no. But it does seem that it works for some...your car

Guys, what are the skid plates I should get for a 360? Hill engineering?

Fernando, I just purchased two ABS plastic sheets that were 1/4 inch thick and cut my own. This is a wear and tear part that can easily be replaced. So far (9K miles later) they are still in place using 3M double sided tape and have taken some pretty good bumps and scratches.

My body guy likes to adhere without bolts...that way the pad can rip away on a bad impact instead of taking the piece of the bumper with it....

But what kind of pad, the hill engineering skid plates or the ABS plastic sheets mentioned before?

Same here I guess the 3mvhb tape is to hold it in place, but which kind?
    Thanks

Mine are aluminum from the previous owner...riveted to the bumper...not what my guy recommends but I would go with the aluminum ones...seem tougher and look nicer imho

Just go with Ricambi's polyethylene skid plate and put them on with 3M VHB tape. They don't budge and I took some good scrapes already.

Thanks Steve, I see yours is a 430 but the Polyethilene skid plates that Ricambi sells are the hill engineering, and from the picture you posted they looked a little different, yours look wider.
Is this what you have in your car?
Ferrari Parts : SKD-430-PE F430 Skid Plates in Polyethylene : Ricambi America

So your advice is for me to get these
Ferrari Parts : SKD360-PE 360 Bumper Skid Plates : Ricambi America
and do not use screws but the 3M VHB tape

That's them! But I have a 430 so they are a different shape than that of a 360.
