Why would you want it back.? You have no idea how the car was treated. But you would have to assume that they beat the hell out of it. Much better off taking the insurance money and buying a new one. Over the years I've owned several and have always considered it a waste of money. What ever discount you might get from the insurance company to have one installed . Is not worth getting back a car that will never be what it was. It may even look right and feel right. But someday something serious could happen that was a result of that car being stolen. The resale price will also be less if any major repairs were needed. You are actually much better off if they never find it.

    Patrick,

Unless things have changed recently with insurance companies, and I don't think they have, you will not get insurance cover unless you have a Tracker fitted to the car.

This is not done by Ferrari but your Ferrari dealer/concessionaire will have an arrangement with a LoJack tracker company who will fit the unit in the car and will monitor the system in the event of it being stolen.

They say that they can locate the car even if parked underground, and they can immobilise it.

They used to claim that they could shut it off while it was being driven by the thief, but I'm not sure that they're allowed to do this now because of the possible danger of causing an accident.

It will cost as much as €1000 to have the unit fitted and then there is an annual charge as well.

There are other brands available but your insurance company may only accept a particular one and it's probably LoJack as this is my experience.

Yes, it's very much the norm over here in Europe, and companies will not insure high end cars without the LoJack system installed.

The various police forces in quite a few European states are hooked into the system and can recover stolen cars in a very short space of time.......sometimes even minutes.

I was not aware of that. Our insurance premiums are much lower here and a transponder system is not required. I understand this is a big plus for insurance companies. Personally, I don't think it does the owner any favors. Possibly being responsible for costly repairs and injury at a later date resulting from a recaptured vehicle being returned to its owner.
