I have a factory tour scheduled in several weeks for 2:30 PM. Has anyone taken the tour recently that can tell me how long it takes? I would like to have an idea when I can expect the tour to end so I can sync my plans with the rest of my group.

Also, we're traveling by train from the north which takes us into Modena. Does anyone have recommendation on the best way to get the 6 of us to Maranello from the train station? The next leg of our trip will require we return to the train station for an 8:30 AM train heading south.

    Thanks,
    Al

I took this exact tour in June, It sort of depends based upon the size of your group to be honest.

You will start at the muesem, then go to the engine plant, then to the factory assembly line(probably the v8 which is down stairs), and then finally visit the private cliente collection by the track.

i had a larger group so it took a little over two hours. I'd Plan for a 5:00 exit if i were you because you will probably hit up the gift shop after.

    hope this helps.

Take a cab from Modena train station to Maranello. Took maybe 20 minutes. There are buses, but you have to transfer (IIRC).

    Tour lasts about 3 hours.
Part of the tour is the museum. There is not enough time on the tour to fully take in the museum. We arrived the day before and spent about 2.5 hours in the museum. Much more time to appreciate and take pics... I was really glad we did it that way.

You need some time to browse some other sites.... Toni Auto (I saw a 250LM there!), a few of the shops.... heck, rent a 458! (I did.... best $ I've spent in a LONG time! 1 hour of orbiting mecca in a 458... priceless). Lunch at Cavallino, Dinner at Montana's. All must do's.

We took our tour earlier this summer and I agree with all the above. Figure minimum 2 hours for the tour itself, probably longer. You should definitely allow plenty of time both before and after the tour to browse the museum, the factory swag shop, the various other swag shops nearby, take pictures, have a meal, etc. Your tour is towards the end of the day and the museum & many shops will be closing by the time you're done so you may want to arrive in Maranello earlier (e.g., 10:00 AM) for shopping and exploration beforehand.

You'll want to come back with lots of stories and pictures. Take care and best of luck!

    Hotsauce, Mike and Jim,

    Thanks for the info.

We get to Maranello late in the afternoon on a Wednesday and find someplace for dinner.

Thursday's plan is spend the morning in the museum, lunch at Cavallino and dinner at Montana.

Then back to the train station Friday morning to catch an AM train south.

The rest of my group will have to find something else to do while I'm on the tour. Hopefully it won't be renting a 458 with out me!!

I'm sure I could spend another day there but the rest of my group wouldn't be interested.

    Al that sounds great.

One thing i would recommend is sending your group to the end of the street where the museum is. There will be a big tall fence. They can pop there heads over it or stand on the nearby walls and see the Ferrari race track :) Their seemed to always be cars on it when we were there so hopefully you guys get some action! Also the entrance to the track is your First left when returning from the dead end.

They won't let you take your camera into the factor, but you can take pictures at the museum. I did however snap some pictures of the private owners collection with my cell phone.. I know i feel like james bond.

How much did it cost to rent the 458 for an hour if you recall?

I think the tour took a little over 2 hours like they said. I took a taxi to get there as well. I rented the 458 for 20 minutes which was about 120 euro last year. You might want to reserve the cars for a bigger group. Great restaurant choices as well.
    Have a great time.
