How long does it take to prime your F1 hydraulic system from opening the driver's door to the F1 pump going silent? When warm, mine runs for 5 seconds at a constant pitch then shuts off. When cold it seems to run for 8 or 9 seconds with the pump decreasing in speed towards the end. I also find that I get 4 gear shifts between activations of the pump. I'm wondering if this is normal or whether my F1 pump motor is on its way out. It's a 2005 car that has covered 24,000 miles.
With engine off and the F1 system primed I can shift from 1st - neutral - 1st - neutral - 1st, then the pump kicks in again to re-pressurise the system. I guess this is a measure of the hydraulic accumulator's capacity more than the pump's effectiveness? Thanks for the feedback so far. I'll put my credit card away on the basis of that!
My 05 acts about the same as yours--I have never tried the 4-shift "test" you mention....do you think this is diagnostic?
Yes that's correct. It's easier to hear what the pump is doing with the engine off. I should also mention these tests are performed with a brand new fully charged battery.
My 16M pump works exactly the same as you describe. 5 seconds when used recently, and up to 8-9 seconds when the car has not been driven recently, or when it is cold. Not to worry.
