I am new to this forum, and have an inocent question for the Ferrari owners out there. It was started by one drive I had with my '81 corvette. I saw in my rear view mirror a new Ferrari (not sure what model) comming up on me. He slowed down as he was passing me. I really love Corvettes and I dream of owning a new one some day, but I also appreciate Ferraris. So I was going to give the guy a thumbs up but before I could he gave one to me. I was shocked. Here is this guy in an awsome $200,000+ car giving me in my $10,000 used Vette a thumbs up. So that got me thinking, what the Ferrari owners think of Corvettes. Please don't blow me up I am in no way trying to sart a Ferrari vs Corvette war. I am just wondering what you guys think of Chevrolet's contribution to the sports car world. I am not just talking about the Z06, I am more interested in the Corvette in general. Mainly the standard Vette, old or new. All opinions are welcome. Thanks guys.

You shouldn't be surprised. I think you would find that most Ferrari owner's are car guys in general with an appreciation for many makes and models.

I had a similar situation this past Monday. My wife and I went out for a nice dinner for our anniversary. We ended up parking the Spider in a parking structure downtown Ann Arbor.

When we headed back to the garage to get the car and go home, we must have hit a huge exodus and there were quite a few cars lined up to get out as well. We sat patiently with the car in reverse, saw a break (a guy in a '74 Vette let us out) I waved at him.

when we both exited the garage, we ended up heading the same direction and both got stopped at a red light right next to each other. I was checking out his car, and he was looking at mine. I said, "nice car, and thanks for letting me out back there, I was afraid we'd have to spend the night there!"

He looked a little shocked that I said anything to him. We chatted for a bit, the light turned green and we were on our way.

About your question, I think that the Corvette has quite a bit to offer for it's price. I'd love to own one.

    I have 5 Ferraris & 2 Corvettes, a 68 & 93 both roadsters.

Gotta to pick up a used C6 Z06 next year :)

Ferraris are great but parts can kiss your azz. The Corvette has a great racing history, nothing at all to be ashamed of. Besides Corvettes are running LeMans w factory support while Ferrari is doing crap at Indy

Many on this board like the Vette, including myself. It seems to be a mixed bag on whether the Ferrari owners are enthusiastic about all sports cars (like the guy you describe) or just Ferrari snobs. Granted I am really into the Ferrari cars, but I would not look down on anyone pursuing automotive fun. I guess I really can't look down on other drivers because of the low stance of my 348. :)

I agree most of us graduated to Ferraris from other cars maybe we always dreamed of a Ferrari I was involved with Vettes for years and traded my 2002 ZO6 for my 355 Spider after having owned six diffrent Vettes, MGBGT, Jag and various other cars over the years. Enjoy your Vette and appreciate cars in general.

I like Vette's and even thought about buying one. The reason I didn't was, as a kid, I had always dreamed of a red 308. I even had a model of one. When I was ready to buy a sportscar I discovered that I could get a 308 for the same money as a Vette. Also, having a Ferrari is unique, you see Corvettes everyday. Now when it comes to finding and buying parts....I wish I had a Vette. :)

I owned a '99 C5 for awhile and found it a beautiful, comfortable, powerful, and reliable car. The OEM exhaust was weeny, but a Corsa fixed that. :D

Retrospectively - I am back in a 328 now - my only dissatisfaction was that the Vette was a little too smooth, too insulated. Did not feel as though I were "one with the road" and wired directly into the machinery. Tried a Z06 and a 2001 Viper, same non-sensation. With those cars you are "controlling a piece of machinery that is on the road"; with a Ferrari you "melded into" the machinery. The car becomes an "extension of yourself".

The only other marque that I've personally driven conveying this "oneness" is Lotus.

Vettes are the best bang for the buck, easily. I saw a yellow C6 yesterday and it was sharp!

The enjoyment I get from driving my '62 Corvette is equal to that of my '78 308. It's just as raw a car but faster to triple digit speeds (in theory, I would never actually drive that fast on public roads). My clothes have the same hi octane exhaust smell from driving either car. People are friendlier towards the Vette however. More waves, looks, smiles, thumbs up, etc. Corvettes are cool. In my opinion, the older the better.

I have driven my father's 2000 corvette conv. quite alot and it is a nice car. He also owns a 355 and although the corvette is not quite as fast or fun to drive, has lots of room and get's about 30mpg on the highway. For the money, what's not to love? Shame about the big ass end though..........

I have had 2 corvette's. When I owned my ferrari I also had a corvette as my daily driver. So I could compare them on a daily basis.

    From above "Tried a Z06 and a 2001 Viper, same non-sensation"

As an owner of a viper I have one question. Did you floor it? Trust me, you get a sensation.

Like 'vettes, some moreso than others. Really liked an '87 convert, black with red interior, perfect shape.

I'll be interested in a slightly used c6 z06 sometime in the next 12 months.

Tough question choosing between the Corvette and the Ferrari.

I have a C5 and enjoy driving it. I also have a 308GT4 and enjoy driving it.

It seems to be getting less that way though, I was at Chevrolet earlier last week and saw the sticker on a standard C6 to be at $55k. Thats before taxes. Now the new Z06 will be closer to $90k if not approaching $100k.

    Thats Viper territory.

But that $100k will take on pretty well anything on the street - at any price, short of a Murci/CGT/Enzo. Amazing performance for the $'s - and remained very consistent to the brand for what - 50 years now? That's very impressive imo!

I love Covettes too...I've owned 4 of them and cared for them deeply. I started in an 84..lots of put-downs but the car was great anyway, the steering was awesome with Z-51 and with a little more power that car could have been a killer. I then got an 88 35th anniversary model, very classy and quite rare. I then bought a dream car, a 63 split window coupe and spend 5 years restoring every nut and bolt, well....over-restored it. It was a show-stopper and I was a slave to it, as it was too nice to drive. My last vette was a 91 ZR-1 and was a FABULOUS car, these cars are way underrated. I did a few bolt on mods and the car would hang with Vipers any day despite it's weight and smaller motor. That LT5 is really something with lots of potential. But ZR-1's had an identity crisis, most people including other vette owners didn't even know it existed. What turned me off of vette ownership was how "snooty" the crowd was getting at the bigger shows. I didn't want to be a part of it, or be mistaken for being like that. So I sold the ZR-1 and bought a Testarossa. I'm very happy with the car after 4 years of sorting it out. It is totally reliable and is way underrated just like the ZR-1 was. But I HAVEN'T FORGOT MY SPORTSCAR ROOTS ! I owe the Corvette big time! I have nothing but respect and I too wave at them whenever I can...although it's not returned very often. The new ZO6 will be a serious performance car....but if the "Blue Devil" ever hits the streets then look out Enzo! That is one bad muther!

I drove a 2004 Vette recently and the car felt too big, it also had a lack of road feel. The interior was shiny and plasticy...It was not my cup of tea. I like older Vettes. I had a 73 big block (454) which was great fun. It was only rated at 275HP but it would pull like a plane and could run 13.90s in the 1/4 mile on old skinny tires. Its also a great looking car.....kind of like an american version of a daytona in my eyes.

My 2000 Mag Red Corvette convertible is my daily (only) driver. Other than the interior (after 5 years it looks like GM spent $1 on it and got change back), it is a magnificent daily driver. And I like the big a$$ on it, after all thats all most cars get to see of it.....LOL

I respect all sportscars that have heritage. I don't respect econo boxes with fart cans and non-existant Japanese racing team stickers all over them.
