I have a car in a shop. It’s getting a light machine polish, PPF, and ceramic coat. Do you guys typically get a tip when you do this work? The person that did most of the work works for the shop and isn’t an owner. I tried doing a search and all I came up with is a recommendation of 15% for a detailer. I’m not opposed to giving a tip but $750 just sounds like a lot of money for a tip. Thx.

    I don't see what's wrong with a crisp 100$ bill?

not being facetious, if you did the work, what would you consider a nice tip? That's one way to approach it.

I usually go by effort and how well the work was done. I'm guessing they're spending a day or 2 on it? $100-$150 (if you're super impressed) sounds good to me.

but you asked those who get tipped, not people who do the tipping, so I will leave it to them to weigh in!

Like anything I suppose, it’s all about how you ‘feel’ about the overall experience.

Just a “Drop of Tuesday, pick up Friday” transaction…maybe a bit something extra for the guy who did the work…not necessarily $750 though.

When I had 2 cars done the consultation before, during & after went far beyond a transactional experience so I was around 10% on a $9k & then a $14k job.

They went far beyond “just another job” and turned it into an ‘experience’ which is what I was looking for. Heck, they even sent my wife flowers when they did her car

No regrets and I didn’t think twice about it as it ‘felt right’ much like when you get incredibly awesome service at a restaurant that adds a bit extra to make for a memorable evening.

If you feel like it’s too much though, it probably is.

coming from a professional detailer, if your happy with the result $100 each for the guy or guys doing the work would be a fine tip.
For the owner, I'm sure he would be happy if you posted an online review of your experience.

I own Atomic Auto Spa in Austin, Texas. We normally get tips from our clients and of course those tips go straight to the guys doing all the hard work.
I guess the general answer to your question hinges upnon weather they did a good job or not.

We make every effort to wrap all corners w PPF and we also fully detail every car inside and out weather it needs it or not. Most clients don't expect this so yes, we often get tips.

If you think they went above and beyond then hell ya, at hundo is definitely a good thing...especially for your karma!

I ended up giving 150. I think he was very happy with this.

My wife just had her MB SL55, PPF’d and ceramic coated. She tipped the two guys $100 each.
