I just contacts after holding out for a few years. Only thing is my near vision is slightly messed up. I don't know how to describe it. It is very hard to focus on anything without squinting my eyes, more so with things nearby then with things far away.

I am far-sighted so normally my vision nearby is fine.

    Thoughts?

Did you get a different colour?

Have you looked at bi-focals or tri-focals? Most contact lenses are designed for "far vision" since thats priority for most people. Reading then would require glasses when needed. Half-half Bi-focals or ribbon strip tri-focals mean that you can look straight ahead and have far vision, and look down (when reading) and have short vision.

I dont think there are any lenses out there that actually simulate the variable focal length of your natural eye lens (I could be wrong). Thats why maybe youre trying to squint, to forcibly squeeze the lens to change its focal length..

Im no optomitrist, but what did your optimitrist tell you about your new adaptation to contact lenses? Im curious because I am too thinking of getting them.

Assuming that the prescription is correct I'd guess that you need to go in the direction of bifocals. The contacts are correcting for distance and if you're getting close to middle age your eyes can no longer make the adjustment without squinting. There are several different types of contacts that adjust for this- some are like traditional bifocals with the reading portion at the bottom (the lens is weighted to keep it aligned properly), some have a center portion for reading, another choice is to go with mono-vision, one lens for distance and the other for reading. You might have to try a couple of different sets to find what you're most comfortable with.
