I have a very good friend whose dad owns a 308. Me, being the only true Ferrari-Guru he truly knows, he asked me the following questions:

    1. Are 308 prices going up or down?

    2. What do you predict they will be worth in a couple of years?

    3. He is being offered close to 67K for a 60K car he bought 2-3 years ago. Should he take it?

    4. What are the differences in price between a Canadian car and a US car?

    5. With a 25-year anniversary coming up, will it raise the price?

He owns a 308 QV 1984 with 39,000 miles. 308s aren't my "thing", as you can see, I'm more of a 348-ist, but I'm happy to help anyone out with Ferraris. I told him that I'd look it up and tell him.

From what I've seen, it looks like he could have got the same car for about 45-50k, but it was full service done, from a Luigi Ferrari Club member IIRC, and its a drivers car. Hes very happy with it, and is just wondering what its worth. Being offered close to 70K really aroused his suspicion that these cars are going up.

I really hate to ask you guys things that are being asked daily, but I need answers. I've concluded that prices are very cheap, but that could just be in the US.

    TIA
    Andy

We BS on this all day long! LOL!

The prices of the 308/328 range have fully depreciated and are now trending upward..see Ferrari Market Letter or Cavallino magazine Price Guide for details.

That said you'd need to go specifically by year as every engine specification is a different value curve.....

THEN and this is important, each individual car within each range is effected by variables such as color, care and as always condition condition condition..

Also to make top dollar all relevant Books tools and a complete record af maintenance service should be present.

Welcome aboard.......for a few dollars you can join here and then there is FerrariAds available for sales efforts, good luck

#4) No, it is referred to as North American as to specification, although selling cars between the two countires involves legalities of importation.....

One of my cars sold new in Canada, now in USA...

1976 fibreglass 308GTBs have cracked $100K and are still going, in some markets, so do your homework, I'll gree it sounds like he has a good offer on the table if he is inclined to accept it..

You really shouldn't hold them as 'investments', as you could blow the motor and be out $20K in a blink, so that's just not wise.....

    Thank you.

Thanks for that. I'll subscribe to the FML and I'll send it to him too, hopefully he will too.

Sorry for that, I'll be sure to check it out.

Are these very long processes to get through?

I know he didn't hold it as an investment, hes wanted the car for his whole life.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone!

    1. They are going up, but not that fast because of the economy. Still, they bottomed a few years ago and it's all up from here. The 308 is finally starting to be recognized as a classic that is worth collecting on its own merits, and not just sought out by people who want the cheapest Ferrari they can get their hands on.

    2. No way to know, but like BigTex said, the fiberglass cars are pushing $100K now. The early steel carb cars will follow, with the QV's taking up behind them.

    3. $67K is a good chunk of money for any 308. I think most of us would be amazed to be offered that much for a 308. If it's a glass car, that is about average I would think by now. What year is it?

    4. Not qualified to answer.

    5. The 308 was introduced in 1975 with the first models being 1976. That means the 25th anniversary was in 2000 or 2001! I think prices were pretty much bottomed then, so I guess it didn't raise the price.

    The internet, serious business! LOL!

It's not complicated to sell between the two countries I am sure, you just get involved with Customs declarations and shipping....

If he's really attached to the car he may want to go "long" on speculation as the 308QV is a very popular niche with good reputation for both performance and ease of maintenance....

My older NON CAT legal, early carbed cars are faster but stinky......LOL!
