    Hi guys,

Does any one know where I can Anodize engine vents in my 76 308 GTB? They are faded, appearing grayish now.
Also, spoke with Classic Coach in Elizabeth. They recommended their special flat black paint on the vents that supposedly looks great, is very close to original and is less expensive. I'm sure CC would do a great job, but just wondering further.

    Thoughts? Ideas? Leads?

I live in North Jersey, but would consider travel if need be.

Thanks very much - its appreciated!

    Mike.

I had this issue several years ago on my Bora and it's rear aluminum louvers. I just prepped the pieces really well and sprayed them myself with De-Rusto Satin Black in a rattle can. It came out beautifully and has held up just fine.
If you have no experience with such things then it might not work for you. You can elimnate flaws and not worry if they'll show whereas anodizing may not let you do that.
Powder coating is tricky as sometimes it doesn't produce a beautifully smooth finish.

So get a can, a piece of test metal, a heat lamp and experiment. You can heat them in the oven as well if it will fit.

    Bob,

Thanks. I have done small propjects before w. my 308, so I might give this a try.

Also, would be kind enough to let me know in regards to heat lamp - after I spray the louvers, I should put a heat lamp on them for smooth finish? How long should I do this and how soon after I spray paint?

Thanks very much ... I'm excited about the 308 coming together now!

I don't know what happened to my reply, however paint and anodizing are completely different and will never look the same. If you are going to paint why not powdercoat them, it will look better than paint and last longer.

Do a google search on anodizing there are several in the NE.

Sounds like this will be a bit of trial and error for you. I'm not familair with the parts you're painting how big are they? Maybe you should post a picture.
