I know its the first year for the body style, does anyone have one and had problems? I know someone who got an 02 lemon, but got another one and has had no problems. What is your opinion....

I was going for a Range Rover, but a mechanic at the local Land Rover dealer said that he couldn't believe how many problems the 2003+ Range Rovers had. He said its a junk car with a nice name. He was driving a new Range Rover with 250 miles and the transmission blew, and he said there is many electrical problems. Does anyone have a 03+ Range Rover who has had problems?

    Hi,
My friend has one of the first 7's that came out. He had a ton of electrical problems. It is certainly a drivers car though. Very nice handling and lots of power.

Also, the 02's have a 6 year 100k mile warranty. If the car in question is still covered under warranty I would go with it.

Definately be prepared for possible electrical issues though.

On the RR side. I believe the 03's are pretty much BMW made. They have the BMW 4.4 engine and pretty much the same interiour as the BMW. I can't comment on the reliability of them though.

    Good luck with everything.

The Ranges are fine. There were a few lemons, but in general they were fine. Before they came out they were probably some of the most throughly tested new vehicles to come to market.

02's had quite a few electrical problems. FAR more then the Range (which I recall correctly only has 3 or 4 computers, identical the electrical system in the old E38 7 series and later E39 5 series and X5's...while the new 7 has over 50). That would not hesitate me from getting one (if I liked the look) provided it had a very good warrenty AND a very good service/loaner department (so if something happened, I didn't have any noticable down time).

i had looked at buying a local range rover dealership with a friend 2 years ago...the reliablity of the cars was horrible...the newer cars are better but not great...the 02 7 series had a lot of electric problems..you have to be lucky to get a trouble free car..this is per my good friend, who is the head mechanic at a local bmw dealership.....

From what I've been told, BMW had to go back and increase the warranty on the 02 car because of how many problems they were having; basically the original software was a total disaster

Isn't it pretty much a rule to avoid 1st and 2nd year German stuff because of reliability? Unless it has a warranty stay away from the used German-Luxury stuff I think.

Well, I am a Mercedes person for the most part. It did seem odd that the 02 7series have a 6yr/100,000 mile warranty. I guess they extended it to make you put up with the car..

    It's tough because its a decision between a G500, '02 7-series, '01 CL500, Cayenne S, or '02 Range Rover..

Gwagons I've heard have problems too, It seems the CL and Cayenne would be most reliable out of those choices... And the Cayenne would be the car with a warranty and low miles...

I would go with the CL unless you need the room and have to drive in snow.

That's good to hear. And same with you, many friends I know that have them have had no problems..

And the CL would be good because there is absolutely no snow in Southern California, and I'm sure gets better gas mileage than the RR....

It's tough because they are all roughly in the same area price range...
