I am having an issue where when I lock the car , after a second there is another indicator flash and it seems the alarm is not engaged . When the car is unlocked and ignition is on I see an error saying Alarm system failure. There is no beep on locking or unlocking the car. The car locks fine and only system the alarm is not functioning.

The official dealer is saying the battery in alarm system ( which is somewhere near front bumper ) has died , and the entire alarm siren has to be replaced. To me doesn’t make sense to have an battery operated device, and you have to replace the entire thing than the battery…

Could someone share their experience and if this happened to them before ?

The reason you have a battery in the alarm siren is in case someone cuts the battery cables, the alarm still works. The alarm siren is not a big box. It is only about 4 in (10 cm) on a side. The rechargable batteries in the siren tend to leak when they age (yours are 17 years old, I think) and the acid eats the circuitry in the siren. Eurospares has them for about 115 pounds, a lot cheaper than for the older Ferraris with alarms.

Thanks for the details. Is there a way to replace it without removal of front bumper ? It seems odd it suddenly died.

That is what the WSM says. On Maranellos it is reached by removing a headlight. No easy way.

Another question for the group. I've got no siren chirp when locking or unlocking the car. The digital dash shows the "alarm system failure, go to dealer" message. I had my local shop try to read the code, and they said the code would clear itself before they had a chance to read it. I assumed it was a dead siren battery / dead siren from corroded battery, so I had them replace the entire siren. This had no effect on the issue. Has anyone experienced this with a code clearing itself before being able to be read? Thanks.
