I was reading some threads and I noticed that someone stated that their fans turn on at 190 degrees or so. I have a 1985 308QV and my fans continously run from the moment that I turn the ignition and continue until I turn it off.

    Is this normal?

    Thanks

Sounds like someone hot wired it. There is a temp. sensing unit on the lower right side of the rad. It should turn on at around 190-195* unless you have a lower temp unit 175-180*. So if you turn on the AC the right hand fan turns on and when you reach 19* the other fan turns on. If you don't turn on the AC both fans will come on at the 190* . So unless you have heating issues you can check the wiring and hook it back up.

Thanks for the info...now that I know that's not normal, I will take a look at that.

My fan was hot-wired ON too when I bought it. It turned out the temperature switch was dead and whomever had the car before me was too inept or too lazy to fix it.
Check your temperature switch after you rewire it back in.

Thats good advice, TBH I'd be tempted to change the temp senser anyway - the hot wire was for a reason and if you get an intermitant contact it can "test" ok then fail when you're not looking.

I had this happen on a old ford and it cost me big :(
