When using the Redline 75w90NS in the 308 gearbox, should a limited slip additive also be used? On most domestic clutch type LSDs, the additiive prevents chatter and noise due to clutch slippage, did'nt know if this applied to the Ferrari diff, or if the additive would cause excessive wear to the synchros. Thanks in advance.

The best thing is to try just the 75w90 NS with out the additive and feel ahow the tranny shift, more than likely you shouldn't have to add additive, at least with mine I didn't have to.

from what I've read here, most try the NS straight (no additives), and for most it works fine.

if you get chatter, then you might need an additive.

but from what I can see in my research, most don't need the additive. I recently went to Redline NS and it worked fine in my car, no additive.

I guess everyone's different on this topic - I used half/half NS and with the friction modifier (you can buy both, in the same size). I used half/half because the Redline rep I happened to catch the day before did recommend that mix to me for a 308 (transaxle with LSD). Hope that helps!

A lot of this comes down to preference but the Redline NS formulation was specifically designed for transaxles sharing oil between the differential and gear / synchro train where gear oil is specced. Mobile 1 gear oil has a lot of friction modifiers in it. That's great most of the time, but in many transaxle applications it makes the synchros more than a little recalcitrant. People may argue over what the *best* oil or cocktail (the Subaru guys are infamous for all kinds of special blends) is, but I've never met anyone with a Subaru or Porsche transaxle who didn't find the Redline NS stuff light years better than the standard synthetic (with friction modifiers) gear oil.
