I haven't read through all the posts to this point, but a 360 engine is not much better than a 355 engine, at least in raw figures. I understand it has more mid range torque, but it's hardly night and day. The performance figures are also barely any better. If you really wanted to go down that path you'd need to go to a 430 engine, surely?
How can a 360 be dropped in with the 360 crank not having splines? I would be game to do this but I didn't believe it was possible due to the spline issue
Already hashed over the 360 crank idea, but the reward was not worth the expense for 2mm of stroke, might as well go 430 crank... stroke 348 - 75mm 355 - 77mm 360 - 79mm 430 - 81mm 488 - 83mm Otherwise, just deck the heads .012, non-cat'd cam timing and challenge chips. Best bang for your buck, using the hp/dollar calculator.
430 crank doesn't fit. Bore spacing is totally different. Having Crower or Scat fab a 83mm or so stroke crank isn't a big deal but I would prefer Ferrari's quality as their cranks are quite nice. If a person absolutely had to have a longer stroke crank that's what's I'd do.
Do you know what non cat cam timing is? Best I can find is intake cam remains the same and exhaust cam is 4 deg retarded.
Mine did not blow up when it hit 9250 RPMs, and has seen at least 10 minutes above red line. The F355 RPM limit comes from several factors a) it does not make any more power with the came it has b) valve guide wear limits engine life at the current RPMs c) cylinder liners get eaten away at piston stop above 9000 RPMs. d) hydraulic lifters are falling down on the job above 9000 anyway. The crank, rods, piston ring package have no problems up near 10K.
So much of how many RPMs a motor will take is the quality of the machining, controlling temperature and have the part properly torqued in a fixture simulating a real condition, assembly, torquing bolts, blueprinting, balancing, friction coating etc. besides all the dew dad parts that fir in. Lifters, sleeves, pistons Just amazing what we know today with all this technology thingy stuff
