    Hello everybody,

I'm a 1978 308 GTB owner from Paris,France.I've enjoyed this amazing source of advice and expertise you guys provide on this great site.
I'd be glad to have your suggestions on the following,I apologize in advance for my approximate mastery of English, especially when it comes to techs.
Here's my problem:when I release the gas pedal around 4000 rev and up,I hear a very nasty metallic rattle sound. This doesn't happen under 4000rev.
I have a beautiful quicksilver stainless steel exhaust that besides that, sounds fabulous.Still at around 4000 rev, when I maintain that level, the exhaust "bangs" and pops quite a lot:is it possible to fix?
Last question:I'd like to replace the cheap oil filter installed during my last oil change a couple weeks ago by a nice fram oil filter I just purchased: is it possible to replace it straight away without completing a full oil change?
    Tanks for your answers,
    cheers from Paris,
    Olivier.

Is your exhaust heat shield perhaps cracked ? The one sort of under the engine bracket between the exhaust and the boot

Thanks for your quick answer, your suggestion about the heat shield being cracked, refers to the nasty rattle sound, the bangs and pops or both?
    cheers.

Yes you can just change the filter, personaly I'd change the oil as well, it takes 10 minutes to undo the drain plug, drain the oil into a container, refit plug, fill engine with 8 ish litres of oil

Fram filters are generally not well constructed and not recommended. I think that holds for the special 308 model as well. What filter is on the car? Being in Europe your best bet may be the factory-specified UFI.
And I wouldn't bother with changing 2 week old oil myself..... ??????

After a lot of head twisting into the engine, the only reference I managed to read is :
    - Filtros Purflux LS 180 or possible 6 instead of 0...are you familiar with this one?

My 308 parts supplier strongly recommended the fram racing Hp1,according to him,it's the one to have.

You have a metal rattle, maybe in the tips?? and the popping is a carb issue.....

I agree that Baldwin, here in USA or UFI filters are good......Fram has had problems in the past and may be OK now, any Euro shops care to comment?

Here on fchat, Fram is generally considered the last choice in oil filters. The Baldwin B253 and UFI are the ones most people use.
