    Hey again,

While I'm into my car (a 79 308GTB) to the elbows, I might as well R&R the Fuel Hosing.

Not the ones to the carb, but the ones that join the fule tanks and up top to the fule gas cap. Anyone know the sizes of these?

As always, Thank you very much for your input.

    Chris.

I know what a stickler you are for originality.
For the rest of the world, the filler neck is NAPA 1055 hose. If you can't find it locally in a reasonable length, I can ship you 3-3/4" of it for $10. The fuel crossover is 1-3/8", you'll need about 6". Remember that if you don't go super-OE style, that stuff needs to be fuel capable. Even the stuff you get from Ferrari may not hold up! There was a thread about that a couple of months ago.

To add to what Don_xvi said- I highly recommend the "Marmon" clamps for the fuel filler hose. Available at NAPA.
Not to scare you but there are several threads here about fires caused by cracked fuel filler hoses- everyone MUST change them ASAP on these old cars. The other very important fuel hoses to change are the ones between the tanks.

NAPA PN# 1055 fuel filler hose,
    Marmon Clamps #705-1531

I see you are in Ontario...
There is a BMW place in Costa Mesa called Mesa Performance and they have a lot of the "original looking" braided hose up to 14mm. Have heard larger IDs may be at a Vw dealer?
A place where several people get the crossover hose is Mcmaster Carr they are on the Internet.PN 5727k71 is 1 3/8 I can't remember if I used 1 1/4 or 1/3/8.

    Have fun,

    Mark

use ca rated fuel hose, the braided stuff will crack on the inside although even looking still new on the outseide leading catastophic failure. I use the braided stuff on the breather and vent hoses. I used bmw hose and used alcohol to wipe off the lettering. I am a stickler for originality but in the case of fuel and clamps I go for saftey. I hes the AWAB SS clamps they are among the best. You can get them at west marine.

    Chris,

I've ranted, (like a lot of others) about the fuel and VAPOR LINES.

Do all of them, even the skinny vapor lines. I parked on a slopes, R & L and had massive fuel leaks from both right and left hand vapor lines. They are a PITA to replace but man, you gotta do it.

I went with Gates 300 psi rated fuel injection hose, (rubber exterior). For a little more safety I didn't sweat the slight difference in hose appearance.

While you are at it you might as well do the fuel filter and all of the hoses that lurk in the dark by the pump.

To drain the tank, I just hooked up a length of 5/16th hose to the last carb and put the hose in the wife's gas tank then turned the 308 key on, untill all of the fuel was out of the tanks. When you then raise the left side to work on the fuel pump hoses, any remaining fuel will move to the right tank.

Don't forget a fire extinguisher, rags, fluorescent lighting, no water heaters or furnaces going or turned on in the garage, and no dope smoking whhile fooling with the fuel lines.

    have a nice day ;-)

I still wish somebody that's been through it all would publish a comprehensive list of sizes/lengths needed to redo ALL of a 308's fuel lines, including cross-over lines.

I don't mean to sound lazy--I'm not, but I just can't get an accurate handle on what truly is needed.

BTW, mine's a 308 carb car (1977). Maybe both carburetor and fuel-injection lists could be published, by some kind soul.

    There's a Christmas gift in it for a 308 carb list.......anybody?

    Thanks,
    Greg :)

I like the metric stuff, it fits better and seems more OEM, and is so much harder to find. When i was young they kept threatening to go metric here someday! I wish they would have it would have made ferrari ownership much easier!!! :-0
