Hey guys, I'm in the process of purchasing a 1981 911 SC Targa, and I found through a bit of research that it is actually a Canadian spec car. Does anyone know if the Canadian spec has the Euro spec engine with 204 HP or the US spec 180 HP?
no idea, but i had a 3 litre Carrera Australian car (same as a early Sc) there is a lot you can do to them, cams, exhaust, very strong car. Enjoy.
I'm not sure about Canada vs. the States, but the SC was Porsche's first attempt to make one engine/emissions configuration for the world. The Euro cars also had emissions pumps fitted and were down a bit on power, so my hunch is that your prospective SC is going to be essentially the same as a U.S. car. Given that it's a 1981, original spec and actual output are probably two very different numbers at this point. I would get it dyno'ed. If a rebuild is in the cards, it is a very strong engine as BlackJag says and can be built to a higher spec using modern components. Good luck. I really like those black-trim Targas and almost bought an '87 3.2 black/black car back in the early '90s. The build quality on those is otherworldly compared to the stuff in the showrooms now.
It is the lower output US spec engine. Canada and the US were generally treated as one market for production reasons, due to the low volume of sales up here. This changed somewhat when the high profit flagship 930 Turbo was discontinued in the US after 1979 due to emissions, but was still sold in Canada in the interim years, while only reintroduced into the US market in 1986. But the "volume car".......the 911 SC....stayed the same.
Thanks for the great info!!! The rebuilt engine was just brought back from the dead today, sounds fantastic. tons o' pics to come after its in my garage.
with that injection, exhaust, clean up of the heads,964 cams, you should get about 230hp. I got 250 hp on PMO carbs out of a 3 litre motor, running 10.5 pistons. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
