I am a young guy who is trying to plan his future. I live in Minnesota but I am planning on moving to Arizona soon. I will be finishing the rest of my classes online. I would like to get a job lined up before I move, I would really like to get into an exotic car dealership. I am wondering if anyone could give me some information on who I might talk to. I will be going to Barrett-Jackson this January and I would stop and talk to who ever would like to meet me.
I hope its alright that I posted this here. I really enjoy browsing the forums, its a great place to learn alot. If you guys want to know more about me, let me know. Thanks for any help!

Welcome to FerrariChat and possibly Arizona!

The major exotic car dealers (Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Bentley, etc.) are franchises owned by Penske Automotive.

    http://www.penskeautomotive.com/

If their web site employment page is typical of most corporations, its a black hole.

There are a few smaller franchise dealers such as:

    Scottsdale Lotus: http://www.lotusofscottsdale.com/

    and several independents:

    Forman Motorsports: http://formanmotorsport.com
    Autohaus International: http://www.iautohaus.com

There are a handful of truly fine independant repair shops in the valley as well.

If I were in your shoes, I'd prepare a professional looking resume with whatever work and education experience you have and visit some of the local dealers in January. Be well dressed and groomed and ask to be directed to the sales manager or service manager. Prepare a 60 second "pitch" introducing yourself, telling them why you asked to meet them, thank them for their time and ask if they have any advice for you. My bet if that 1 or 2 of the fellows in the valley will be so blown away that they will take time to offer valuable career advice.

Watch for the Cars & Coffee events in January and feel free to drop by and introduce yourself.

    Good luck!!

Sounds good. I grew up around my parents dealership, but I think its time for something different. Are there any members on the forums that work at one of the dealership mentioned above?

I would be intrested in sales. I know it might be tough to get right into sales, so I would be happy to work my way up. I have experience in detailing, sales, car transporting and auctions. My parents own a small used lot here in Minnesota, so I have a small idea of how things work.

I actually moved to the area for a few months precisely to work in the car business; but unfortunately I haven't had much luck.

All the things that Nerd recommended I have tried. No one has seemed to be interested in a very qualified Ivy League graduate and experienced businessman -- not to mention a true Ferrari nut and highly knowledgeable enthusiast.

I would be appreciative of any help/contacts as well.
