Hey guys, I know it's not a Ferrari, but it's based on a Ferrari, so I guess I'll post this here. I'm just wondering, since there will not be any MC12 coming to the States and they don't make a US spec MC12, can you independently import one to the States? If so, can you get the car register with a US title? The reason is I know someone that is selling one and I'm just wondering if it's possible to register the car in US. Appreciate any feedback from you guys. Thanks.

You may be able to bring one in under "show and display". I'm not sure if someone has petitioned DOT for the exemption yet. Napolis may know the latest.

Call Johnathan at 410.366.6332. He federalizes Mclaren F1, Jag XJ220, etc. He did the yellow Mclaren F1 LM in in New York that supposedly just changed hands for $4,000,000 or so. Do you know about that transaction Napolis?

If Euro Enzos can't be federalized, I can't imagine an MC12 would be...but what do I know?

Isn't there a kind of US title that allows an import car to be only drive 5000 miles a year or something like that. Like the Show and Display title judge4re mentioned? Isn't that how some of the Skyline GTRs are brought to the States? I am guessing there has to be a way to import to the US.

I beileve the yellow McLaren in NY is the one owned by a friend who also owns a silver one.
I believe the yellow one is "show and display" and the Silver one is federalized by Dick Fritz/Americaspec who so far as I know is the only one who federalized McLarens of which there are 6 federalized ones.

If you go to those informative websites that are posted in my WARNING thread you will find that a MC 12 has not yet been approved for show and display. It can't be federalized as there is no US version.

Before I bought one I'd contact the sources mentioned by Clint. He was very helpfull in the "Noble/430" scam.

I am unaware that the yellow one has changed hands but I'll ask.

not that this is an "mc12", but the mc12 prototype, the one that looked like an enzo with the wing, is already here in the us. i don't know what type of "importation" rules applied (ie- racing car or show and display), but it has already made it here. i would guess that the mc12 could be brought in as a race car or a "show and display" exception.

Thanks for all the help guys. I guess it will be such a hassle to just try to get it register in US; probably better off to buy an Enzo for a cheaper price in the US. Oh, I'm not the one buying the MC12. I'm just trying to see if it's possible to bring the MC12 over to the US for resale since I know there's one out on the market and there are none in the US. Once again, thanks for all the help.

If you're talking about the car that Risi is bringing to Sebring that is a pure race car.

I know there's one in HK that will sell if the price is right. In my opinion, I think the car is too big to drive in public road (the back end is probably as wide as an H1), more like a collector's item.

The owner of Ferrari of Ontario bought one! He had it on display at the Toronto Auto Show. You can see pics in the Canada section of this site. Not sure on what basis it is in Canada, but being the security risks that we are, we let anything into the country.

Here is a link I found a while back that discussing importing automobiles to the U.S.(it is from 2000). Maybe a bit outdated but still a good read. Dick Fritz is quoted in the article and it so is Gerd Petrik who has imported some very famous and rare cars to the U.S. over the years.

Interesting link. So far the list of acceptable "Show and Display" cars is somewhat shorter than Dick thought it would be back in 2000.

Benny has a home in europe where he keeps his new Pagani so it's hard to say where his will live.

So far the MC 12 is not on the S&D list or eligable for federalizing. BTW there is a docket # for Euro/Enzo's but I'm not aware that any have yet been federalized. (Others?)

I recently read an article in a magazine (Celebrity Car, I think) and the owner of Lazy Days RV in Florida has an MC12 in his collection. I don't know how he got it here or if he even uses it but there is definately at least one MC12 in the US, probably more. I have heard, second hand, of one residing in NJ but don't have any proof to substantiate that claim.

There's a good chance you'll see one at the Le Bella Machinne d' Italia event in June this year. Benny had his first Pagani there once already and that wasn't federalized. I'm not sure those sort of details get in his way ....

There also might be a race version there as well, outside chance. Hoping for a Trofeo Light that's currently sitting idle. There will be lot's of other Maser race cars present.
