    Hello all,

While chasing an oil leak on my 328 (1986, 24.5K miles), I removed the plenum and intake unit for the first time. I found a few things of concern, so I wanted to poll the experts.

There was a little oil in the throttle body (trace amounts), some serious need for carb cleaner in the Plenum, some oil on the injectors (some were pretty covered), and varying degrees of blackness in the intake runners.

How concerned should I be with these findings?...especially the injectors?

Additionally, with the intake runners off, I can see the top of some of the valves - some of which have some pretty serious oil deposits on them. What can I do with this? How much of an issue is it? And on the cause side of the coin: is this telling me I'm in need of a valve job?

Regarding the injectors: they seem to be brass, which I thought I'd read in past posts means not original (Steel was orig?) I was planning to replace them during my next belt change, but regarding putting them back now: I was confused by the past posts...do the rubber grommets (that hold the injectors in place) need to be replaced (1 time use only)? Anyone have part numbers? (there actually seems to be 2 rubber parts) Additionally, the person who did the last major never replaced the 4 "C" locking clamps (that hold the injectors in) on the front bank...anyone know where to get replacements?

Here are some pictures of the madness. I'm clueless, but having fun. Thanks for your help and happy 4th! Battman

see if you have oil in the bottom of the air filter box and the fuel distributor. If you do, check the oil vapor separator system hoses...especially the drain hose that connects the bottom of the separator to the sump (shift shaft area).

If there is an easy airflow path through the separator (which is just an empty metal can), oil/vapor will get sucked into the intake.

the injectors on my '89 328 are brass. The clips that hold the plastic pieces into the runner shouldn't need replacing, so I wouldn't worry about those. The fat rubber o-rings on the injectors are ok to reuse, but if you want, you can get "fuel injector seal" kits from local parts stores for around $3/injector.
