Hello all, I was wondering if we had any vintage corvette experts on Fchat. I am looking to find a 66 Roadster for my father in law, and realized I know nothing about corvettes. His original car was a 66' roadster, I believe the color was merino blue with white interior. I could not find any pics of the older vettes in this color. I have found blues in the following shades: trophy, nassau, daytona and laguna. Did merino even exist?

Additionally, what is the best corvette equivalent of fchat, as I am sure I can find much info there searching archives. Instead of bothering you guys.

    Thanks for any help.

Its marina blue and finding one that is an original marina blue with white interior is rare but a very wanted combination. You will pay a premium for this combo. Find one with the 396 425 horse combo and you are golden.

Marina Blue, now that makes a little more sense. His original car had the 427 c.i. , If I'm correct, which I don't think I am, that was 390 hp.

The 427/390HP engine did exist. I am off on a business trip but you can email me at [email protected]. I have restored old Corvettes and recently sold a 1967 coupe which was marina blue.... I have been a member of the NCRS for years and can help you out.

The 390 hp 427 was the "base" big-block, it was also available in a 425hp version.

Marina Blue was not avaliable in '66. Available blues were Nassau Blue, Laguna Blue, and Trophy Blue. Of the 3, Nassau Blue is probably the closest to Marina Blue. Laguna is a dark blue, Trophy is a light silver-blue. Marina Blue was first available in '67.

Here's a page that lists option and paint codes for all years:

Also, '65 had the 396 ci big block, '66 and '67 were 427's.

Thanks, everybody for the help and resources. I am starting to educate myself a little, and will keep you posted when we get close on a couple potential cars. I think your input will be very valuable.
    Thanks again,

A 1966 big block roadster will run well over 50k.
But if it doesn't have to be original you could find a small block roadster for 35k and build a big block for under 5k. Good luck on your hunt.
