I've decided I want to buy a 2004 Gallardo. I want to go with the 04 because of price and I don't need the front lift. My driveway looks like Evil Kineval's ramp at Ceasers Palace so I don't think the lift would help anyway. I will keep it in my warehouse and use it for lunch break thrill rides. I want a 6 speed. Has anyone else originally wanted a 6 speed and then decided to go with the E-gear? With either option my question is what are the things I need to check for as far as clutch updates ect. Are there any other problem areas I need to check for? Is there a specific PPI check list available for these cars that I can give to a mechanic? I know this has been discussed before on another board before but I have not seen any recent discussions. On a car this new I think that could make a difference. Thanks in advance.

    Richard,

!.) On the question of e-gear Vs. Manual - that one is going to be a personal choice. When I bought my 04 Gallardo - I drove both and decided on the 6 Speed. I like you just do joy riding so the 6 speed was my choice. Someone was posting the other day that they would be driving in heavy traffic a lot, etc. I would say that the egear would be a better choice in that regards - as well if you are going to track it - you will get better shift times in the e-gear.

2.) Either way you go - there could be clutch wear - the early 04's on some of them had pre-mature clutch wear on the early A and B releases. I had mine replace just recently under warranty due to this - however this is something to consider on the early cars - not all will be replace under warranty - unless the dealer represents you to Lambo of NA (as they did mine - no abuse, etc.)

3.) There are a number of Technical Bulletins/Campagins that should have been done to all gallardos under warranty (probably 5 or 6) - all minor, but this should be part of the inspection. Have all the campagins been complete and up to date.

4.) An Athorized Service Center or a very good independent will know what to look for and run most of the diagnostics, tests, etc. I would not skip this step. Even thought the Gallardo is very very very sound - best to have it checked out and go over with a service center (and if you can be there at the time even better!).

And for the shameless promotions plug - Mine is for sale - if you are really looking for one :) :) Here is the link.
