What's the logic behind putting yield signs on freeway exit ramps? I had never really dealt with them before I moved to San Antonio and now they're beginning to freakin' annoy me'. Now, I'm an Electrical Engineer major so this is not my kind of stuff but I do find myself asking what their purpose is everytime I come to a COMPLETE stop because some idiot infront of me decides to yield to ALL of the exiting traffic coming from downtown. Why can't people just merge without these stupid signs? What's their purpose? People don't need to be babied do they?

Either punch it or slow it down, either way, learn how to merge into traffic.

Wait until somebody slams into you while you're exiting the freeway and right of way comes into play, then you'll change your mind.

One of the main reasons for having these yield signs is for legal purposes. Although most people know to yield to oncoming traffic on an onramp, the consequences to the civil/highway design engineer is losing their P.Eng designation, thusly their career. In this sue crazy era we live in now, if there ever is a crash, somebody will always be blamed. The engineers are just trying to cover their asses.

This is actually the correct answer. About 30% of all road way signs are ment to assign rights of way in areas it may not be that clear.
