I am completely rebuilding my 308; I was wondering if this area of the carpet (see pic) that was only covered by the floormat when I got the car is usually covered by carpet as well?

    Thanks,
    Helmut

The way that it is on your car is correct. There is no carpet under the OEM floor mats. The vinyl under the seats is also correct.

My TR is kinda the same....no carpet under the factory mats. I thought it was very odd when I saw it......did these cars also come that way?

That looks like quite an undertaking on your 308. Got any pics of the work in progress?

I do and yes it is quite an undertaking, more than I had in mind originally and am not sure exactly where I am gonna stop. I pulled the engine and all of the interior at this point, basically digging my way through the entire car and to bring it back to a state of perfection; So far I have found little rust. I have followed the posts here for about a year and all the usual spots are pretty clean on mine. I attached a picture of an area inside one of the small windows behind the seats where I have heard that rust happens frequently, in case Paul N. is reading this... can you confirm that? around the winshield is also perfectly clean. Once everything is off I will have a good bodyshop go over it and do its magic. I took off the hood and trunklid and doors to have them acid dipped, the rest of the car will get stripped down to metal and then primed with epoxy primer, Which I have read on here is the best (250GTO restoration thread).

The interior was the original red and I will change it to saddle/camel/sand... what is the exact term btw for that color in Ferrari lingo? Exterior will stay the same (a bit darker as this paint is faded big time).

My main lessons that I have learned so far:

Remove the starter cables before trying to pull the engine ( I missed them at first and thought everything was off) also I think the manifold thats up against the firewall is easier unbolted while the engine is slightly lifted up on the cherry picker.

    The axle bolts are TIGHT!

Ziplock bags! Every nut and bolt is categorised into ziplock baggies and marked accordingly.

Should anybody want to share experiences I am happy to do so.

    Thanks,
    Helmut
