Quick Ghibli ZF 5 Speed Question

I'm on that phase of restoring my car where I need to give my transmission some attention. Although I'm unaware of any issues I didn't get to properly put it through it's paces before I dismantled the car. It spins freely through all speeds so I'm hoping she's okay. I secured a set of syncro's from Maseratisource but I cant fine a competent transmission shop stateside to install them, and I'm NOT about to try that myself . I'll keep them on the self in case of a catastrophe I guess. If anyone here knows of a place they can share that would help.

Anyway, I'm at least going to replace the gaskets and seals with MIE kit. So my quick question is....what color should the transmission/housing be? Part looks like it was black, some unpainted....is there a simple answer?
