Just like to know how many purists out there who are prepared to put up with the rather "weak" standard exhaust set up.

    Dear Comrade RED HEAD,

Should Mr Enzo Ferrari have wished for his sublime machine to be fitted with a Tubi exhaust then surely he would have had one fitted - the Tubi factory is only just down the road. So, why not leave it with the standard exhaust in place and allow it to remain wholly unmolested by 'after-market' bits of glitz and glamour :)

    With kind regards,

    Dear 512Tea Are,

No decision has yet been made and I have only had the car merely a few weeks. However I am personally a stickler for originality - have even replaced the gear knob as she left the factory. Can't wait for the dry and non icy days in the New Year as she has been stuck in her stable since being delivered - very frustrating!!

One question - are the cars easy to fill up? There is quite a drop down to the opening of the fuel tanks where the nozzle will have to reach and there is no rubber flap to protect the paintwork. Have you experienced any problems?

    Kind Regards,
    H

    Dear Comrade REDHEAD,

The twin fillers are a real boon at the petrol station as they allow one to fill up from either side (there is a balancing pipe between the two tanks so they run in unison).

I have never found a problem in refuelling and no 'blowback' has ever occurred. So I am confident that you will experience no problems in this regard.

It's good to learn of your acquisition and one thing is certain - you'll love it!

    All good wishes,

    512 Tea Are

Can I ask, does anyone truly believe that the stock sound on the F40 is as good or better than the various other exhaust options. I for one do not think it is. I can understand people keeping their original exhaust-under their bed- if only for resale purposes, however when and if that time comes, is any prospective new owner ever going to say "I'm going to put on the original exhaust back again as it sounds better".? I have my doubts.

No, the stock F40 doesnt sound anywhere as fantastic as the car is/looks. The US version sounds even more quiet.

    Dear Comrade Stradman,

The question you ask is akin to suggesting to a member of an orchestra that his trumpet sounds better than another members horn. I put it to you that you would not wish the four Mozart horn concerto's to be played upon a trumpet. Neither would you be desirous of the Haydn trumpet concerto to be played upon a horn. Accordingly the eight piece orchestra of the F-40 is actually as Mr Enzo Ferrari intended - if he'd wanted a euphonium egressing from the rear he surely would have fitted one. (And yes, I do think the euphonium sounds better - but can we keep this between ourselves please)

    With kind regards,

Actually as Mr. Enzo at the time was well past his eighty years, I doubt he would have wanted the sound of the F40 to be as robust and loud as he would have wanted it say when he was half his age!

Did he also intend for his F40 to have less than stellar brakes too? Maybe 98% of the car was phenomenal but there were some items that could have been better. I beleieve that the F50 brakes were a big improvement - no?

    just a thought:
it could be the standard exahust was not put in the car as it was the way Enzo wanted the car to sound, but more for some, in my opinion "hardly understandable", laws that wanted the F40 as the 288GTO, testarossa, ... or some other nice engines built in Emilia, to be as quiet as all the other cars for road use

i can say here, just few Kms from Maranello, 99% of people would prefer a "aperto" exaust on any Maranello ( and S.Agata) car made (the 1% of them is probably optimistic and not to be found in the car guys :) )

The stock US exhaust sounds like a sewing machine. I replaced with the LM pipes (no muffler), sounds good but not rediculous. The way Enzo designed the car was no cats, no mufller, rediculous!

Although this was not a message directed towards myself, I would like to comment.

I personally believe that if Mr. Ferrari could have, he would have fitted the car with a Tubi like system that would be audible from the next town over. However, noise and pollution regulations kept such a system from rolling off the assembly line. Customers would have to settle for the Tubi sold by most dealers, and its quite obvious that many buyers did and are still thinking of making such a modification to make the sound of their vehicle more to their liking.

    Regards,
    Jack

For those who intend to enjoy their cars ... make all the changes you want as long as they are not irreversible.

I have OMP carbon fiber seats (feel and support better), an alcantara Challenge steering wheel (feels MUCH better), a larger polished shift knob (looks and feels better), and a Tubi exhaust with straight pipes (looks and SOUNDS better). The good thing is that everything can be reversed back to 100% stock if necessary. In the meantime ... I am able to enjoy the upgrades while also saving the original parts against further use (ie. seat wear, steering wheel wear, etc.). A win win! :D

    Few.

I consider myself a purist (well, sort of).

I am not prepared to put up with the aenemic, quiet, boring sound of the standard system. The F40 screams "race car", and it should sound like one. There is a reason the Tubi factory is close to the Ferrari factory :)

The bottom line is that these cars are type-approved to meet various transportation department's noise and pollution requirements. But owners would like them to sound a bit better than the standard systems allow. Enter Tubi, fulfilling the need. Tubi is accepted because they have a direct affiliation with Ferrari as a supplier for their racing cars.

Personally, although I not looking for more power, I find the cars run cooler with a Tubi open pipe system fitted. That cant be bad. And as Franc at Tubi pointed out, the standard unit weighs more than a bank safe and puts out more heat than a suzy haymaker! Not good.

As has been repeated ad nauseum, keep the original unit close by, and all is well. I am losing track of cars, standard exhausts and various Tubi systems. But give me half-an-hour and Ill show you an F40 with a standard exhaust if you really have to see one.

    Dearest Comrade Joe Sackey,

410SA will return here any minute now pouring scorn an derision all over this appalling post that you have perpetrated upon the just and holy members of the forum and whom, upon the pain of death itself, will never allow the hallowed temple of the 'Standard F-40 as Enzo Made It' to be tampered with by infidel componentry.
