The BMW M5 showed its worth in the Territory last month, but for sheer grunt, how about a delimited S65? It's my new favourite 4 door - for this week at least.

Jon, you were right about the sparkplugs, changed them today and the car runs sweeter than I can remember, even seems to have more grunt down low

the car used 4 litres in 6k kms over the last 10 days and returned about 28mpg

another thing I do is put in injector cleaner every 4th tankful and it runs smooth as silk

oh yeah, this car is much easier to change the plugs than the gt4

Strictly speaking, the correct plug for 308QV is (platinum tipped) BP7EV... but you can't get then anymore and the superceded model has a resisitor in it... BPR7EIX... and is also Iridium and about $20 each...

BUT.... The resistor weakens the spark too much, and the (some) modern fuels are so bad they tend to foul plugs... so BP6ES is a good hotter non resisted option, but for exactly the same price ($3 each), BP6EY is better... as it has a v grooved electrode which keeps a better spark for longer.

    NGK plugs are the best.
Have you ever heard of Chemtech? That is a really really good injector cleaner. I have used since it was recommended by Tafe teacher in 2000. Give it a try next time. Its in a little blue bottle, costs around $13. :)

Nope. I subscribe to the KISS technique...

    Keep
    It
    Simple...
    Stupid.

I have a locally developed spark plug tester... really cool gadget... just drop the plug in, push a button and it sparks up in front of you... Really useful tool which saves heaps of time and messing about. Also proven to be invaluable for racing...especially karts/bikes and low power stuff where plug type/gap/condition/operation can make large % difference to BHP.....

Worthwhile chasing optimum plug set up in powerful engines too... if you take things seriously enough to worry about 2-3 BHP.

of course! 2-3bhp in my POS (900kg) is sphincteromically like 10bhp in a 'normal' car (1500kg)

Sams tester is a neat little trick but it doesn't take cylinder pressure into account so it doesn't quite give you the whole picture. The test rig they've got at EFI Tech for benching CDI and other ignition setups includs a chamber that can be pressurised to 160BAR with a camera built in for viewing. Even 160BAR isn't enough but it's amazing the difference a bit of huffin' and puffin' makes.
