Hi All, When I acquired my 2000 Ferrari 360, it came with fabspeed headers, catless test pipes, and a Fuchs German muffler w/ valve-less tips. To say the least its just a bit too loud for as often as I'd like to drive it, I'm trying to daily drive it as much as possible. I have some spare OEM Cat's, as well as an OEM 360 muffler w/ oem valved tips. My options are the following: 1. Fabspeed Header + OEM Cat + OEM Muffler. or.. 2. Fabspeed Header + Cat-less testpipes + OEM muffler. My question is - will option "2" still be 'too loud'? I'm not sure just the oem muffler and the valved tips will bring down the tone enough, but maybe worth a shot? Just curious if anyone has done option '2' and what they thought about the set up. I don't necessarily need it to be OEM quiet or anything, and I know that wont be the case anyway with the fabspeed headers, I just don't want a full blown straight pipe sound/drone like it is now. Thanks,
I feel your pain. I do not like loud cars. I am not 18 anymore and my ego is not noise fueled. Problem with OEM muffler is what you see is not the muffler. Its inside that big can. The can is full of white insulation and it is built to expand quite a bit. Its like a big accordion. The insulation breaks down into powder and as that big accordion pumps back and forth it pumps out the white powder, progressively worse over the miles and makes a mess of the engine bay. I wouldn't use it for that reason only. See if you can trade for a quieter aftermarket muffler.
If you've followed the OBX exhaust thread, this may help? I have upgraded headers, oem cats and tailpipes/valves, but connected to an OBX muffler. It's dirt cheap, oddly available at Walmart online for $160 (full catback), but it works great. It's also really light and tiny compared to your oem muffler, but nice and quiet...I too just can't handle loud noises. I couldn't be happier with my setup, so maybe it's worth looking at for your car? Worse case, Walmart takes anything back
I’ve heard of the white insulation and seen it in some cases. Does it eventually all blow out and finish up? I’d hope?
I’ve seen a bit about it, but I’m trying to keep it oem if possible, plus I already have the pieces ready and waiting in the garage
The OEM muffler isn’t what I’d recommend, nor would anyone else I suspect. Fabspeed is pretty good, a capristo with valves is fine when you’re not on it. don’t do test pipes, you’ll go from sound issues to smell Issues and be back fixing that later. High flow cats are great, capristo with blankets are perfect
Thanks for the recommendations on fabspeed & capristo, but if i'm going to spend that kind of money on aftermarket I am likely to go with a Kline. I currently have test pipes, luckily no fuel smell issues or complaints - except for when I had a failing MAF causing it to run a little rich. Did you have fuel-smelling issues when you had test pipes on your 360? Right now I'm considering re-insulating the OEM muffler, I see a few people have done this, might be worth a try.
I am having the same issue as you. I am running euro headers and cats with a tubi mon valved muffler. I ordered some used oem valved tips from eBay and plan to install them in the next few weeks when I get time. Hopefully the valves knock out the low end drone and noise at startup.
Fwiw, eurospares does have challenge stradale exhaust parts in stock. No idea on quality or whether they are truly oem or not but generally they do have the real thing. I was going to buy one but I need to see if the valves make the difference for me first. If not then I will change the whole muffler.
The smell from going catless really doesn't bother me. I like it. The stock 360 muffler is 70 pounds with the tips. It's a poor choice. I'm currently catless with an f430 muffler modified to fit the 360. It's pretty tame when low in the rpms with the valves closed. Once they open though it's really loud. The f430 muffler and CS muffler are very similar in design. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
