A former Royal Air Force Avro Vulcan bomber returned to the skies this week, for the first time in 14 years. Vulcan XH558B took off from Bruntingthorpe Airfield near Leicester, England Thursday, and flew for 40 minutes, making the plane the only flying Vulcan in the world.

That's very intersting, Roy. When we were doing the 1970 Abottsford Air Show the Vulcan was there and put on an amazing routine totally within the perimeter of the airport. I've got photos some place. I was able to get the pilot of the Vulcan to let me get up to the cockpit IF I promised not to look aft at the equipment aft of the TALL ladder that got one up to the cockpit. I couldn't believe how cramped and jammed up the cockpit was ! The copilot's position was to the right and aft of the pilot and one had to climb and squirm over the center aisle stand and then wiggle back into the narrow seat. The pilot's position was just as cramped----very narrow and tight. The pilot explained that the airplane was originally designed for just a pilot, no copilot.
When I asked him how they could exit the airplane in an emergency, he said "We don't discuss that." Typically British.
Really a great airplane to watch in the air.
