Ok, so I've got 2 cartons of smokes left (and half a pack, too) and I'll be damned to hell if I am going to pay $10+ per pack. If I'm going to kill myself, I'll find more pleasant ways of doing so...like nailing my scrotum to a tree, hanging upside down by my nailed scrotum and letting ravens pick at my testicles with their beaks until there's nothing left and I fall to my death with a neck-snapping crunch in the colorless, soundless ravine below.

And I'll say this right now, there's is nothing that I love more in this world than the first morning smoke...eating push is a real close second, but that's illegal to do in public and doesn't placate my neurons early in the morning in nearly the same way.

My game plan is to halve my intake to 10 smokes a day for one carton...fine. I can do this...then halve it again for the final carton...probably can do that.

What then? I can't do the nicotine gum (I chew chew chew when nervous...bad bad bad bad thing for nicotine gum), do inhalants work to squelch hardcore cravings? I mean, I go absolutely frikken cross-eyed without a quick fix, will an inhalant help that a little?

    Input appreciated.

    :)

Why would that be bad? Nicorette gum has been around a long time.

Reminds me of my failed invention.

I would save circumcised foreskins, reprocess the rubbery little things into gum for homosexuals that are trying to quit.

    I called it:"Dicorette".

I don't smoke, never have but many of my friends quit smoking 5 or 6 times. It is a hard thing to do and takes a huge effort and then some. Good luck.

LOL....you're really not looking forward to quiting are you?

What you said about your first cigarette of the day sounds like what my dad told me about my grandfather. My dad said his dad never got out of bed until that first smoke was done. Every single day. He eventually got cancer and had to quit smoking and my dad said that his dad said after he smoked his last cigarette it was the best tasting cigarette he smoked in his life.

Since you have 2 cartons left, the best thing you can do is to change up your routine and smoke less each pack you knock down. Work up to having 2 a day and if possible 1. Then go on the patch. Most people I know have had to quit cold turkey because the patch/gum didn't work. But my friend just quit and he used the patch and it worked for him.

Good luck! You can do it.

tried many times without success then used Chantix. that was 1 year and 5 months ago. It was unbelievably easy and I had quit before the second week. ask your Dr. and if you have any depressive tendencies, it may not be best for you.
    good luck

I quit cold turkey after 5 years of smoking about 12 or 13 years ago. Best move you will ever make. It's a horrible, disgusting habit. You won't believe how much better you feel.

    One word... Chantix

If you want to quit, get a prescription now and you will be fine when your cartons run out.

IMHO, a lot better than any gum or patch

You can actually make it easier on yourself by weaning off the nicotine. If you smoke Marlboro or something like it, switch brands to Merit Ultralight for a couple of months, and then go to Carlton. A few days after each switch, they will both seem/taste just as strong to you as their predecessors but at much lower nicotine levels. After your Carlton stint, get some patches and just quit.

    >17 years of cold turkey after being a 2 PAD Camel/Marlboro smoker here.

My 2 close friends stopped smoking for 3 months now. Both have been smokers for about 5 years or more. They quit, saved lots of cash, and have been playing more futsal and taken up muay thai classes.

I often ask them hows the after effects. 1 guy chews gum every now and then, while the other fella isn't even bothered. However, they both told me that they didn't have much problem to quit smoking. IIRC, they probably smoked 1 box of 14s a day.

When the toxins start coming out through your pores, leaving a yellow film on your tshirts, you'll really wonder why you ever smoked at all.......

I quit smoking April 1, 2005. Best decision ever. I can smell things better, taste things better, and I heal faster when I get colds. No more smelling like an ashtray, thank you.

If you don't want to quit, buying tobacco, tubes and a table top injector can get your costs down to a small fraction of current per pack/carton prices.

That has been on my mind to do to save some money, but smokes are still very cheap in CA., $39.95+ tax a carton.

Garbage cigars here are very expensive, never mind something worth lighting up.

My father quit smoking... right after getting a heart attack. I don't advocate his method so good luck in whatever method you pick in quitting. It's totally worth it to you and your loved ones.

No kidding. I ruined a favorite shirt last summer cutting firewood. Nice big v-shaped tan stain starting at the shoulder blades. Should have kept the shirt, would make for great motivation now.

$10 a pack, is that where prices are heading? For the same cost I'd rather be trying to smoke that green stuff....

But it's simply a matter of forming new habits, and that starts with your thoughts about the situation. You are a capable being of change, we all are. Be above it! If it were me? I'd throw the cartons away right now but how easy for me to say. I know quitting is tough. I think quitting would come easier if you placed a higher value on health. In general, if life was easy, well....

Ultimately, I wish you the best of luck with your goal and may you live a long life...

    Thanks!

I'd rather sell the cartons then toss them. I can pick up a nice used 599 GTB for the price I can get for these smokes now.

    Green stuff...not my bag. :)

I smoked for 30 years and spent the last 20 trying to quit.

    1) You need to get the Nicotine OUT of your system as quickly as possible. Patches and gum just prolong the agony and Jonesing.
    2) Once the nicotine is out of your system (two weeks) you'll find the physical urge to smoke greatly reduced, from there it's mostly mental.
    3) Stay away from people and places where smoking occurs for the first couple of months.
    4) NEVER bum a smoke from somebody, EVER!.
    5) Go to the Doctor and get a 2 month prescription for Zyban or Welbutrin. These drugs block the receptors in your brain that trigger the urge to smoke. ZERO Jonesing..
My health insurance didn't cover smoking cessation drugs like Zyban (but will cover cancer treatments!). It did cover anti-depressants like Webutrin (same drug as Zyban) so I took Welbutrin for two months.

I quite smoking 8 years ago (and the Welbutrin kept me from being depressed about it:))
