I have an exhaust leak on the L/Rr (#4?) mixture sampling tube. Any advice on removing the 4 tubes and repairing the leak? I would rather not remove & plug them, they are very useful. Thanks....Larry
I agree that it's a mistake to "plug" those exh. sampling ports permanently, but, if left in place on the engine, IME the tubes just get brittle from the heat and eventually break. F makes a specific threaded plug (part number 110860) that can be used instead so you can keep the sampling tubes in the tool kit for when needed. Try a search on "110860" here and at the old site to get some prior threads/discussion. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, as I started the repair I found that the leak was not from the connection at the manifold as I suspected, the sniffer tube was snapped about 1-2" from the manifold, so I cleaned up both ends with sandpaper, machined a 3/4" piece of tubing to slip over the break and JB welded it. I don't know if it will get too hot for the JB weld, but we'll see. It's fixed for now. Other QV owners.... Part of the reason the tube broke was the bracket that goes to the valve cover (where the 4 sniffer plugs are lined up) was broken, good thing to check if your tubes are still good. I made a new support bracket.
