Hey guys... I need some clarity about the heater box that I removed from my 1985 308 GTS QV (US Car) this past week... On the disassembly, when I removed the intake 3" ducting, there were small deteriorated pieces of a grey foam at the bottom inside the cover along with dead bugs, leafs, etc.. I did a search on this forum and found an old thread which talked about a heater box for a 308GT4 which appears to had small foam strips for the intake cover however its a much different box than mine.

So can anyone please tell me if the QV's heater boxes had a thin layer of foam that went between the intake cover and the heater coils inside the box for protection or to slow down the "turbulence air flow" from from the intake duct???? If so pics would be much appreciated... Here's a pic of my disassembled heater box that I'm posting to show..."Is this it"????

What Steve said. I recently refurbished mine on my '85QV. One filter was in reasonable condition; there was nothing fancy about the originals: just squares of cheap foam. A decent hardware store should have a virtually perfect match in a sheet. Just cut to size.

Seems to me that the purpose of that filter is just to keep bugs and other lumps out of the radiator fins.

I just used the coarse fiberglass/polyester fiber matrix material I pirated from a home furnace air filter.
