Whether indoors or outdoors, what are the best models to actually use, whether; racing, piddling about, terrifying ants, cats, dogs, neighbors, wives, etc. - not just be shelf-queens?

Edit; Of course, whether rinky-dink or 1/10 - size isn't a factor... and, ah, what the hey - doesn't even have to be a "Ferrari" - just plain, dependable, fun timekillers.

Too many variables to answer IMHO. Cars that are "good" on asphalt don't work on grass, for example.

Racing is a very (very!) different can of worms to piddling about - *Totally* different setup. Unless you mean "buddy races" of your own?

What terrain would you run it on? How big is it?

I haven't checked for ages, but unless you have an indoor basketball court, "indoors" tends to equate to "toys" - Not fun IMHO.

    What's your budget?

    Then someone will help....

    Cheers,
    Ian

Lets say asphalt... $100 (max) budget... tinkering around on your own or "buddy races."

Bought a Ferrari Enzo 1/10 scale electric car at the Ferrari shop in Rome. Spent about $300 Euro only to find out it costs about $150 in the states :(

Oh, of course *it* wouldn't be an all-purpose vehicle.

Whatever models proved best on whatever surface was actually best.

OK - IMHO, the "best surface" (whatever that may be!) is primarily determined by what you have easy access to:

    - Indoor basketball court - Then the "grippiest" (fastest) would be to lay industrial carpet and run on that - Running the same circuit on the boards is (or used to be) significantly slower. [The carpet can be rolled up and stashed of course]
    - Outdoor asphalt area - Depends on size - If it's big enough, nothing compares with 1/8 scale gas cars.
    - Dirt & grass - Again, if big enough and you don't mind destroying the surface, 1/8 gas buggy's are a shed load of fun..... 1/10 electric buggy's are catching up though and don't require as much space.

    Cheers,
    Ian

For entry-level on-road, I'd go with either Tamiya's TT-01E or HPI's E10. Both are electric 1/10 scale and are available RTR (ready to run), including everything you need (except battery and charger in Tamiya's case). Unless you have a lot of indoor room and a smooth floor, these are outdoor only. Both are around $200 or so and the cool part is you can change out the lexan body with any model you like. You can even buy bodies to paint and sticker yourself. Also, hop-ups are available for each including sway bars, shocks, more powerful motors, etc... they're quite tweakable in terms of setup.

Wax, I just hope you take into consideration the cost of ownership on an RC Ferrari as compared to other RC cars, you see Ferrari's are special.

I only had one decent RC car and it was electric. I hated having to charge batteries. From everything I've heard talking to the RC ubernerds, gas is more reliable than electric, also they say the larger the scale the more reliable.

    Around 12 months ago, I bought EVERY Tamiya 1/10th Ferrari R/C. :D:D

I dont know why, but I did. I also have the Tamiya 1/12th 288 GTO that is not in those pics. :):)

3 of them came with "finished" bodies. So they look great. No doubt I will **** up the other 3 when I get around to putting them all together. :p:p

They are all still sitting in the spare room collecting dust.:eek:

Do you mean 4 strokes? In RC terms, "gas" generally means 2 strokes as referenced above [1/8 or 1/10th scale] These are not low maintenance, but there is nothing faster (in any scale, including 1:1) to 60mph (Real speed) - Geared correctly I'm pretty sure they're under 3 seconds!

4 strokes are *big* - If you have the space (asphalt or dirt) I guess they're a lot of fun but have never had the opportunity. They're certainly less maintenance intensive than 2 strokes and carry onboard starters (typically pull cords, but some now have electric starters I believe!)

    What's the budget? :)

To dysko - $100 doesn't buy you a whole lot other than "toys" IMHO - But I'd love someone to prove me wrong....

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Kyosho Circa the mid 90's

1/8 Scale Electric power with the capability of mounting 2 motors.

With todays modern Brushless motors and Lipo batteries, I could easily get it to go over 100 mph.

It has never been run, I bought it as a kit and finished it strictly as a display model. It happens to be one of my Favorite F1 Cars of all time. As well as many others form that era. The Golden years in my opinion. The cars actually looked good.

There are 2 other cars in the series as well.

    Hope you guys like it.

+1 on the 1/10 Tamiya as a good basic r/c Ferrari. The F430C, with a big wing and racing details would looks nice.

Pap, great collection, and the 1/12 288 too. Wow, you da man.

Pro Stock, great looking car, I've never seen any r/c models that size from Kyosho and I agree, a classic F1 model. Thanks for sharing.
