I get exactly the same thing with mine, so I'm looking forward to hearing the experts chirp in on this one. I'm just about to switch to Redline 75W90NS gearbox oil, so hopefully this will help. I won't be able to report back for a couple of months however as we've still got lots of ice and snow and salt on our roads, so no outings for the 308 for a while!

Not trying to high-jack the thread, but I'd like to know how important it is for the gearbox to be warm before draining the oil out of it. I'm hoping that a very cold gearbox will be fine as long as I leave it to drain overnight?

Your input shaft is still spinning after you declutch because either the clutch is hanging up/dragging or the pilot bearing isnt allowing the input shaft to stop spinning.

And I suppose the fix is to start dismantling things and lubricating/replacing parts? Frankly, it doesn't bother me that much, you just have to be aware of the fact that it likes a few seconds in neutral before engaging reverse.

Mine does this on rare occasions. On very rare occasions I have to turn the engine off then put it in reverse and start with the car in gear.

There is no synchro on reverse, as I understand it. There is a synchro for 1st.

If you declutch and slip the lever into 1st momentarily and then slip it into R in one smooth motion, you will have no grinding.

Not sure if it's bad design or a mechanical issue, but it is very common. My mechanic didn't consider it a problem.

    Yep, no synchro in reverse.
My Alfa 105 has no synchro in first.
By default when I am about to select first when I drive off I put the car into second, then put it into first and no crunch.
    Just second nature now.
