I just read that Dick Cole, the last surviving member of the Doolittle raiders, has passed away at the age of 103. Cole was Jimmy Doolittle's copilot in the lead B-25.

RIP. An act of bravery and daring w/ few parallels in modern warfare.
Another reminder that the Greatest Generation is leaving us quickly.

Something that I did for last year's American Airlines SkyBall at Dallas. Commissioned by the Boeing Co. and lost by the Sky Ball people. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I failed to mention that this was an accurate recreation of the first take off of Doolittle and Cole for the raid on Japan.

Excellent artwork as always, Bob, and thank you.

Here are a couple of photos of the B-25J Panchito that I took last Thursday at Sun 'n Fun down in Lakeland, FL. It may be the wrong variant, but at least it's the right airplane!

(Speaking of the "Greatest Generation", Thursday also would have been my dad's 100th birthday. He was just a humble sergeant in the Army Signal Corps, working on early radars, but he did his part. He made it to Guadalcanal, but long after the Japanese had been removed. And he lived to 98, so he had a good life.)

Bob, love the art! Particularly the drawing of Dick Cole as a young man. Thank you for your contributions here!

You're welcomed. It's enjoyable to share. Several people have asked who wrote the poem. It's something else that I put together.

Jim, your dad was one of 13+million servicemen and women who did their assignments and duties, most with honor. It was impossible for all to have seen action but the support for those who did was always there.

Thanks, Jim. I'm always hoping now for one more year and then next year, another. Ninety three next June so 98 might not be a problem...unless somebody else has a different plan. In the meantime, I have artworks on the board and writings in my head and I intend to keep working on them.

Thanks, Taz. Nothing else that I can do so I just keep doing what I'm doing. Not worried about the rest of it.
