Damn...
Georgia.... Georgia..... Damn how sweet was that man's voice... You could hear the scars he carried in every note....
I knew it was special to see him at the HLSR, last year. God bless him, he defined class! I'm gonna go buy some wraparound shades. Thanks, Brother Ray!
HIT THE ROAD JACK. Saw him after 1990 monaco f1 gran prix in Jimmy z's..put chills down my back he was that good.We will miss such a natural Talent.
that's them.... he actually "saw" more than most people, IMO. he bridged the white/black chasm well before many others did, using art instead of bricks.
I like that. It's very very true. Rest In Piece. He truly did touch many people. Musicians have the power to affect so many people's lifes. And he used that power.
Everytime I think of him, I remember seeing him at Shea Stadium during the 86 world series. That and his song "Mess Around" playing in Planes Trains and Automobiles with John Candy playing the dash like a piano. His music just makes ya feel good.
I still think Stevie Wonder is still the best blind musician around, regardless of race or dead or alive...
I saw Ray once here in town, and I was just listening to two of his disks in the car this weekend. Listening to the news, you'd think all he ever sang was "Georgia" and "Hit the Road, Jack." Fine songs, but he did lots of other good material, too. One that I particularly like is "Them that Got," which should strike a chord with a few members of this forum, on either end of the economic spectrum. Here are the lyrics up to the bridge: I've gotten down to my last pair of shoes Can't even win a nickel bet Because, ah them that's got are them that gets And I ain't got nothin yet I'm sneakin in and out duckin' my landlord All I seem to do is stay in debt Because, ah them that's got (yeah) are them that gets And I tell you all I ain't got nothin' yet That old sayin them that's got are them that gets Is somethin I can't see If ya gotta have somethin Before you can get somethin How do ya get your first is still a mystery to me I see folk with long cars and fine clothes That's why they're called the smarter set Because they manage to get When only them that's got supposed to get And I ain't got nothin yet
you'd argue with a gate post, wouldn't ya, Norm? This thread is a tribute to brother Ray......... stevie's a nice guy too, but we're reminiscing about Ray right now....
Erich, ROTFLMAO!!! You jumped in while I was trying to phrase it......tactfully. I'm going to get his "Modern Sounds in Country Vol. 1, and 2. I've been looking for it on CD a long time.
