Shoya passed away today after a horrific crash during the moto2 in Milano, Italy today. I enjoyed seeing him ride and winning the first moto2 race in the beginning of the season marked what a great rider he was. RIP Shoya!
It happened in Misano (Emilia Romagna), not Milano... I was there today. I saw on the maxi-screen that he was transported by the marshalls, but nobody could understand how bad his conditions were. At the end of the MotoGP race, just before the podium, the speaker said that he had died. It was a very, very sad moment after a wonderful day. R.I.P.
The accident was brutal. At first MotoGP.com had the accident video for replay, but later it pulled it (although naturally it was still in the full Moto2 race video), and I haven't checked to see if the accident video is back up for replay.
Wow, absolutely terrible. RIP. Just saw some footage on Youtube and looks like he got ran over twice on the chest and abdomen.

Terrible accident. When you get run over, you can expect to take a trip to the hospital or worse. One of the consequences of running in the front, with people very close behind you. Terrible accident, terrible result for a very good young man. As someone who has been run over, my heart goes out to his parent, friends and crew members. Art
