Are the R1 and R2 points in my 308 interchangeable?
I know this isn't the correct attitude for a Ferrari owner, BUT... If I yank out my R2 (that's the one to pull, right?) points, can I use the hardware as a spare for my R1s or are the two points sets different?
Didn't find any info here or on the old site. That could help stretch the ignition life further!

I *think* they're the same, but not positive. Easiest way is to check a parts book, such as the on-line one at owners.ferrari.com.

OK, I checked the catalog. Curiously, they don't show 2 sets of points per distr in any of the catalogs, and the quantity needed per car is shown as "2". However, they only show 1 part number. The various catalogs for all years/models all seem to use the same illustration for the twin distr setup from the original GT4 printing.

I'm guessing from this that there is only one part number.

This is almost a trick question, because I believe the PNs are actually different, but because of a different wire length -- not that an R2 point set wouldn't mount/function OK on an R1 point plate (but not 100% sure about this).

They "cheated" in the SPC, and the illustration is as Hans reported, only one point set shown and only 1 item number labeled, but under the item number descriptions on the companion page there are 2 PNs listed and 2 of each required (2 "lunga" and 2 "corta").

Interesting. The FoUK website only lists one part number. I wonder if they discontinued the other one.

It's all 'pointless' for me. (rim shot - "badda-bing")

That is a slight negative for the SPC information at the FerrariUK website -- they give more what's available from them (or what the latest updated part is) rather than the exact information as printed on the companion pages of the SPC. If you want to check it out you can go to Steve Jenkin's site -- TAV42 IIRC of the 308GTB/S SPC that he has posted there.

You still MUST stay current on this. Resistance is futile.

The key here is the number of leaf springs. High rpm point sets use four leafs, while the low rpm point sets use only three.
