For years now it has been tricky getting racing car tyres with the right tread pattern for early cars, or even the right size front tyre. However Pirelli now have their Stella Bianca 16" crossply tyre in stock with their international distributors in the following sizes:

500/525-16 - there hasnt been a performance tyre in this size for a long time. ideal for the front of early Ferrari Race cars
    550-16 another front option
600-16 a rear. (working on a 650-16 rear option as well)

for years now we have been racing on cars that are fitting their later tread pattern. so you have the Dunlop R5 and CR48 in 16" tyres. now 16" tyre were fitted by racing cars in the 1940s and 1950s. The R5 tyre that Dunlop Racing make thes days didn't come out untill right at the end of the 1950s and the CR48 is a 1962 tyres

Dunlop Racing tyres are great, becuase they are fantastic to race on, beutifully progressive and predictable and most importantly they level the playing feild. a whole grid of cars varying 10 years in age maybe are nicely balanced out by a control tyre that performs so prettily it makes a fabulous spectator sport. If you have a control tyre like this its great. you are racing against each other and it stops people getting silly levels of grip and braking their car.

however they don't look right on these early cars where the Pirelli does.
