Hi Guys, I was racing in the rain and left the track and blew off a LF SS brake line. Anyone know who is currently making stainess steel brake lines for 348's that I can just call up over the phone and buy. I know someone has a source fast and freindly. I may need a new front bumper too. Trying to decide if I want to repair it or just bolt one on.
http://www.hrpworld.com/index.cfm?form_prod_id=804,313,695,587_3841&action=product has the stainless brake hoses for the 308 and 328 on the cheap...might be worth asking them if they have the 348, too. Ditto for Girodisc and Koenig.
PICS!!!! The hard lines are available from Ricambi $10 each... The flex SS lines I used Stoptech. They are direct bolt on...no mods... Not sure if Ricambi has Stoptech, but I got mine off ebay from Rotorworks. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-348-GTB-FR-StopTech-Stainless-Steel-Brake-Lines_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33564QQihZ006QQitemZ160202658751QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1VQQtrksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247
Thanks! I was dreading having to make them. My old source is gone and I knew someone here had the hot ticket. Stoptech in just down the street from me too. I never knew they did OE stuff. For those interested Jeremy found that Stoptech makes the SS lines and they are stoptech # 950.03001 and 950.03500 Stoptech.com and you can find their distributors. Great find Jeremy and they will probably not be going away anytime soon either.
Well it is really not a big deal. We were racing in the rain which was so cool and so fun. I will never miss a rain race. It is just too much fun. Grip was good and then no grip. I flew off at about 80mph doing a 360 piroette scrubing off zero speed since it was like glass. The landing zone was dirt and rocks up to 2" around. My splitter was ripped off the car and my lower bumper half was dangling. I drove back in no problem and driving in the paddock I find I have no brakes! Well that's kinda cool...not! So here is my lower bumper half in pieces but fiberglassable. The splitter was carbon fiber and smashed to bits like glass. There was nothing to collect. I got another one on order and a new giant rear wing plugzit and I saw about 8 mons back. The next picture is my driver's radiator a rock got launched into it and pierced it. I pressurized it with a stant pressure testor and my finger is pointing to the hole. I'll try welding it first and if that is no good I'll retrofit another radiator to fit. I'm not going to even ask how much a 348 radiator costs. I am sure a japanese one will be stronger and more efficient but I'm 90% sure i can TIG it or braze it myself. Then you can see the screw in my tire which was pissing air as I was leaking coolant! I don't have a picture of the front brake line that broke at the proximal end of the fitting! Wow! all that damage from 1 spin off the track. All easy to fix but obviously not trackside in the rain. Plugzit you missed it. What a fun weekend at the track! Car ran awesome the funny electrical somewhere starting issue has fixed itself even in the rain...typical Ferrari. Next race weekend 3/2/08 WSIR combo event with FCA/Pantera. Luigi was there he had a great time too. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Carl, Glad you came out ok. Wow, alot of damage from one "off", glad it's all pretty easily repaired. And, yes, LUIGI HAD A BLAST also, what an awesome weekend (my tires are pretty much done , sorry you had to leave a little early. (onboard video from my 308 will be up later) -Luigi PS: Porterfield racing down in CM near my office also is a quick and easy off the shelf source for SS lines if your other source doesen't pan out.
Hey Shemp, you shoulda been with us and your car woulda been fine. Seriously, I am glad you came out of the incident clean. I have done a high speed off while spinning and it's a sphincter grabber. You come off just so and you hit the dirt sideways so that the car flips and rolls. Your end damage was far less than mine. Be careful, dude!
Thanks for the update - I get my stooge history mixed up. Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp (he was before Curly), Curly Joe, Joe (big mistake), man oh man!
No, no, no. I'm Curly, Chubba is Moe, Plugz is Larry, and No Doubt is Shemp. So I guess that makes you Joe. Nuk, nuk, nuk.
