Racing an E55 AMG in the mile

A boost controller?? Try again. E55's are supercharged, not turbocharged. To cahnge boost you need to change the pulley.

I'll put $50 down that the E55 has your emblem hanging from the mirror when it is all said and done.

An SL55 sucked the headlights out of the 550 Maranello when tested by MB officially.....and the E55 is lighter and faster than the SL55.

If it is the supercharged car that is.....if it was the N/A model it would be to close to call IMHO.

 

Unless he has electronically removed the limiter, the M/B is going to hit the wall at 155 mph. He should be able to do that in a mile. But, unless removed, when the fuel starts cutting in and out, he will think his engine is going away..................:>)

What's the difference between a Limited Edition E55 and a "plain" E55? I didn't even know they offered an LE? Anyone?

 

Alex, i don't know the specific differences... A friend of mine had an '01 E55, then he picked up the '03 Ltd. Ed. E55 AMG and it was balls to the wall... Hopefully someone else here will know the specs on the ltd. ed. and the difference between the two; i just know what it feels like to be inside one and do things i only thought a two door sports car could do...

 

I know they're all "Limited Editions" and do know that any of the new E55 is fast!

 

There's a big difference between an 01 E55 and an 04 E55. The 04 has 469HP, the 01 has less than 400HP. I dont think limited edition makes any difference - but I could be wrong..

Its limited edition because of the production numbers. I'm not an MB guy, so I can't discuss options. However, I hope your Corvette has no hookup problems because the AMG is a monster off launch.

Without power braking, my friend slammed on the gas in this thing at a stand still and we left a trail of rubber about 60-80 feet long; it was ridiculous...

Ferretti, we're all wondering what's under the hood... C'mon, tell us...

Rob, I wish you luck and I can't wait to see the video. The new E55 is wicked fast in stock form and a bona-fide religous experience if it's been tuned.

Worst part is, you can whip most cars while dialing on your cell phone and smoking a cigar.

I think NNO created this confusion with LImited Edition model designation.

Went down to the MB dealer yesterday and there is NO SUCH THING as a LE E55 amg.

The 01 and 04 MY cars are different, for sure as someone already pointed out.

Calling an E55 AMG limited edition, is saying "hey nice Enzo limited edition you got there"


Its called an E55, and not an LE

Not flaming anyone, just trying to clarify all this unnecessary model designations that don't exit.

But if you are talking about TOyota Camry's, there is LE, SE, XLE and so on

From the looks of that Im gueesing you have had something scary put under your hood.

 

Hmmm, some of us have seen the MB commercial with the nasty demon that is forced back into the engine bay. I hope you have a large displacement force fed fire breather under that hood! I like the underdog, I hope Rob puts the smack down.

The limited edition part comes in with the '55'. Lets just take the 'E' lineup. They have a E320, E500 and the E55. Whenever you see the '55' It is a AMG suped up machine. While some MB have AMG styling and other features they do not have the engine which is handbuilt by AMG. That is what also makes a SL55 different from a normal SL500.

 

My bet would be that Rob has done atleast a cam and heads.

 

Guys, robs car is not stock vette! He made my friends 350hp camaro look like it was standing still on a friendly run from a 40mph roll...and ive got the vid to prove it. I dont know what he has, but i also have a vid of him hanging right with a C5 with a 426 ci engine that has a few more HP than stock.
edit- oh yeah, and this was before the rebuild. Judging by the vid, he has heads and cam and then who knkows what else. That thing sounds awesome. Is that an LG5 cam?
